lynyrdsky1 Posted January 6, 2011 Posted January 6, 2011 Me and my dad are for sure going down to Lake Fork during my spring break which happens to be the week before the full moon. We still havn't booked a hotel room. my dad refuses to get a guide so I'm just going to do a lot of info searching when it gets closer. Quote
Super User Grey Wolf Posted January 6, 2011 Super User Posted January 6, 2011 GOOD LUCK. These guys/gals will probably give you more info than you'll be able to digest. Quote
lynyrdsky1 Posted January 6, 2011 Author Posted January 6, 2011 GOOD LUCK. These guys/gals will probably give you more info than you'll be able to digest. haha that be great. Only thing is, I hope our boat will be able to handle it. That 1996 mariner 200 isn't workin as well as it did and the champion is falling apart. Got to do alot of work on it and use alot of $$ to fix it as well. Quote
lynyrdsky1 Posted January 9, 2011 Author Posted January 9, 2011 Need a place to stay at down there any suggestions on places? Someone on here has answered this question before but I forgot. Quote
Super User KU_Bassmaster. Posted January 9, 2011 Super User Posted January 9, 2011 Out of the places I have stayed, I like Burnin Stump the best. Has covered parking for your boat and free wifi that actually works. Bed was hard as a rock. Some like that, but I am bringing a foam matress topper next time. Lake Fork Marina is right down the street (where all meals should be eaten. yum!!!!) and is also a pretty decent place to stay. Only thing I don't like about Lake Fork Marina is that there is quite a bit of "action" going on. Kind of makes me worry about my stuff. Quote
Super User Long Mike Posted January 10, 2011 Super User Posted January 10, 2011 I stay at Fisherman's Cove, when I'm at Fork. It has covered slips for rent and plenty of parking for those towing boats. It also has a restaurant and a bar. The bar is one of the very few places on the lake where one can sit down publicly and drink a cold beer after he gets off the water. Quote
lynyrdsky1 Posted January 11, 2011 Author Posted January 11, 2011 I forget the name but, my dad stayed at a place called Qual Hallow i think. Is it still open? Quote
FishinTN Posted January 11, 2011 Posted January 11, 2011 I stayed at Fishermans cove last year. Nice place and friendly people. Restaurant is nice. Won't be dissappointed. The rooms are kinda like a older log cabin. Looks like a older place, but pretty clean, and kept up pretty well. I'm going to try Lake Fork marina this year in mid april. Heard good things about them too, and the restaurant is suppose to be top notch. There's a number of good places though, fisherman are the lively hood of those places, so most that you hear have a good reputation I'd say will be fine. Oh, by the way. You better call NOW. There going to book up fast, if not already. I had to change my times, and that was 2-3 weeks ago. Quote
lynyrdsky1 Posted January 12, 2011 Author Posted January 12, 2011 Looking at brochures of my fathers. He has one from Westside Lodge which has to be 15 to 20 years old. He said he also stayed at Lakeview Lodge idk if it is still there either. Quote

FYI, you can now purchase alcohol in Emory which is about 15 minutes away. Please be mindful of the rough water in March as Fork can really get rolling. If you are limited by your boat you will want to stay at Fishermans Cove as it is on Williams Cove which connects to Little Mustang. Those coves get hammered by fishermen but you can get out of the wind and catch some very nice bass. I have caught 4 over 9 pounds and several 5's, 6's, 7's, and 8,s out of Williams in the spring. We have a place there and if I can help just PM me and I will assist any way I can. I should be there over the full moon so maybe I can show you a few productive spots. Quote

I think the fullmoon is the 18th or 19th. We are not going to be there the 18th. I think we are leaving Memphis the 12th getting there early to fish the next day fish all week and fishing on the 17th and leaving the 17th. i got a tournament the 19 so will be cutting it close. BassChaser57 Posted January 15, 2011 Posted January 15, 2011 I will be there next month for most of the spring but will have to be at work the first part of March. I should be back on the 14th and will help in any way. There will be at least 1 (probably 3) Share-A-Lunkers caught that week. There seems to be great fishing on the full moon in March and April if the weather will cooperate at all. The Texas fish hatchery is about 1 hour south at Athens, TX and is where they take the Share-A-Lunkers. It is really worth seeing if you have time. I believe Quail Hollow is no longer in business Quote

BassChaser57 Posted January 16, 2011 Posted January 16, 2011 In Texas from October through April when you catch a Bass 13 pounds plus you have the option to call Texas Parks and Wildlife where they will photograph and take possession of your bass. They will take her about an hour south to the hatchery where they will use her for (I think) 2 years then they will tag her and put her back in her home lake. They then take the baby bass at about 8 inches and stock lakes all over the state. They have really been successful in getting the genetics and size up on the bass. For your trouble you get several prizes and a FREE replica mount of your bass. It is a great program. Look for my photo in the Share-A-Lunker program this spring --I wish Lake Fork sure can leave you scratching your head wondering if there is a fish in the lake. Please get with SOMEBODY that knows the lake and get some pointers. Quote

BassChaser57 Posted January 16, 2011 Posted January 16, 2011 I am not saying you have to get a guide, but at least talk to some guys at the lodge and get the latest trends and locations. Good luck Quote

oldgolf4 Posted January 17, 2011 Posted January 17, 2011 Bass Chaser is right: "Please be mindful of the rough water in March as Fork can really get to rolling." The last time I went we had high winds and rain and the lake was extremely rough. I happened to be in a 16 ft. alum.! You can get around the lake pretty easy by using the numerous public ramps, instead of running the main lake. However, be careful. Some of these ramps are dangerous when the lake is low. The ramp at the south side of the 154 bridge looks great, when you put in all is well. When you try to get out, the water is very low at the wooden dock. Even in the small alum. boat, I had to raise the outboard to keep from hitting the bottom around the dock. This makes it very dicey when the wind is howling! I am going back at least a couple of times between Feb. and June. Can't wait! Caught an 8.68 last Sept., my pb. Can't imagine how great it would be to catch a double digit!!!!! Quote
Bass_Fanatic Posted January 17, 2011 Posted January 17, 2011 No doubt its a great fishery and a place that I visit yearly, but dont overlook oldgolf4's advice...the lake can get NASTY with just a 15mph wind. I have been in several situations out there where i wasn't sure if I was even going to make it out alive. Be prepared and keep updated with the weather. Just a hint...the back of Dale Creek is awesome during the spawn. Not many people fish it and it has some great places. If you want to catch alot of 3-7lb fish, fish between the grass and the bank in a foot of water or so with Rage Lobsters! For a big momma back out to the first break in the creek in 15ft with a V&M Flippin Jig Blck/Blue. Quote
lynyrdsky1 Posted January 17, 2011 Author Posted January 17, 2011 We found out quail hollow still excist. It is in Little Caney Bay north of the dam and thats probably where will stay. Quote
oldgolf4 Posted January 17, 2011 Posted January 17, 2011 Hideaway Harbor is just next door to Quail Hallow and may share the same ramp. The rooms at Hideaway were ok, small but clean and cost about $60 to $65. The shower was extremely small. The two boat ramps weren't great but ok. If you want a real good and big burger, take 1950 over to 154. There is a place called, I think, Big O Burger. If you want a good full lunch or dinner meal try going just about a mile or so south of the bridge on 154 to Oak Ridge Marina. Great chicken fried steak and chicken fried chicken! Very clean! Quote
lynyrdsky1 Posted January 17, 2011 Author Posted January 17, 2011 Theres Big Boy B-B-Q close to it to. Is it anygood? Quote
oldgolf4 Posted January 18, 2011 Posted January 18, 2011 Haven't tried the BBQ, but I bet it's good. We always like BBQ'd brisket when we go back to Texas. Quote
lynyrdsky1 Posted January 18, 2011 Author Posted January 18, 2011 Is there any points of interest fishing wise if anyone doesn't mind. We've been told to try Alligator and few other places but not really familiar with any of these places. My main concern tho are the driving lanes marked? My dad said it wasn't last time he was there but not sure if that has changed or not. Quote
Bass_Fanatic Posted January 18, 2011 Posted January 18, 2011 The marker buoys are there, but you will still have to idle ALOT.. If you dont know where u are going, DO NOT run outside the buoys. There is usually one or two sets of buoys running into each creek. I have always caught fish in Dale Creek and last year we got on some that were spawing around the island at the mouth of Little Mustang. I caught a 9-14 there and watched a guide catch three overs, one went 13lbs. Many times the fish will spawn a little deeper, in say, 4-7 feet of water due to very high fishing pressure this time of the year. Quote
