Where are the best freshwater lakes/rivers for largemouth in Southeast LA?  I  moved here about a year and a half ago from the north and the bass fishing is 100% different.  What about lures and techniques b/c nothing i do seems to work at all.  I know it is kind of a silly question asking for freshwater only, but any advice would be appreciated.

Well, Im from central LA, but Lake Concordia shouldn't be too far from you.  There are alot of big fish caught out there early spring.  Jigs and Spinnerbaits should be your best friend until May.  Also the Achafaliya and Red River are pretty good.  If you can make the trip up to Toledo Bend it is well worth it, just ask Catt!! ;D

When you Southeast La, are you talking Covingtion, Hammond, Slidell areas.   I'm from Covington and there are not any true bass fishing lakes in that area.

You will have to hit the local rivers and swamps around the area.  There should be some bass clubs around there that can help locate some decent fishing.    I have not lived in that area for 16 yrs so things might be a little different since I left.

The best place I can suggest in your area is the Atchafalaya Basin.

If you get a chance try Venice!!

#1 lake in SE Louisiana would have to be Lake Cataouache just south of HWY 90 in between New Orleans and Raceland. Action should be picking up very soon.

The spillway has some good fish, but it is a good place to get lost and it can be dangerous.

True story:  Fishing a BFL as a co-angler out of Berwick, LA in 2006 and as my boater rounded a bend, a guy in a reno skiff had slowed for whatever reason.  My boater did not slow and threw a fair size wake on him.  The guy FOLLOWED us to our fishing spot, stopped 10 feet away from us and began to trim his boat up and down while going forward and reverse.  My cousin crawfishes the spillway for a living and has told me other crazy stories that will have to be left for another day.

Back to where the good spots are:  Lake C is really good, Delacroix/caneravon canal, Manchac (between Hammond and Laplace) usually has alot of open tournaments at the Public Launch in Manchac, Tchefuncte River has some fish in it (Rice Fields), False River (freshwater oxbow), Bayou Lacombe, and the East Pearl River (which also can be dangerous).

Good baits to use are soft plastics in red shad, grape shad, green pumpkin.  Also caught alot of fish on baby 1 minus cranks, and single colorado blade spinnerbaits that were used for saltwater fishing (like a cocahoe minnow set-up with sparkle beatles), black and blue jigs with green pumpkin trailer.

I am giving up the info because I just moved from Hammond, LA to Huntsville, AL.

google "Louisiana Sportsman" and see what they have to say about it.
