ctbassnut Posted February 19, 2010 Posted February 19, 2010 Hi all, I'll be fishing Fork for the 1st time this coming week. Can anyone throw a dog a bone. I more then likely will be fishing alone unless I can find someone from my area to tag along. Just wanted to know where would be the best place to launch out of coming from Rockwell. I really don't want to have to run to far to get to good waters to fish so a launch that is close to weeds with deep water near by would be helpful. I'm not going to running hard seeing as i don't know the lake or its boating lanes. I'm not looking for anyone's honey hole. Just a place I'll have a good shot at not getting skunked. Don't want anyone's secret bait ,but won't turn it down either . Thanks for any and all help. If you know the lake and want to join me any of the days send me a PM. Plan on fishing monday through friday. Quote
ring fry Posted February 19, 2010 Posted February 19, 2010 For a first timer on Fork, my #1 suggestion would be to get a good map and study areas you described. Secondly, do not get intimedated by the lake. Even though there are not nearly as many visible trees as there use to be, everywhere still looks fishy. Almost any ramp on the lake is close to weeds and deep water. As cold as it's been, I'd definately fish the north coves or at least the north banks of the other coves. Rainswood ramp--Quick run up Birch Creek. Williams, Little and Big Mustang--Several places to put in and you can fish all week in these areas. Little Caney--Put in at Hideaway Harbour and your right in the middle of good spots. Public ramp by Minnow Bucket--Close to everything you're looking for. Caney Point--Close to the dam, probably cooler water but good fishing area. The infamous red rattle trap, spinner bait, watermelon red flukes, swim senkos, brush hogs, and most any other soft plastic. 1- can be deadly as well as rogues or other jerk baits. Just stay close to the marker bouys and don't run if there isn't any, take it slow. Hope this helps some and good luck. Quote
BassChaser57 Posted February 19, 2010 Posted February 19, 2010 Seems like I will have lots of company on Fork this spring. When all else fails and you think there is not a fish within 100 miles try a watermelon red flake fluke in the emerging grass. Pop it up and let it settle then repeat -- oh yeah-- then set the hook. A wacky worm will catch lots of under fish but you probably want a big mamma. I have not been there for a bit but will be there next week for awhile and the black/blue 3/8oz jig with black sapphire baby bush hog trailer (cut it into at the arms and use the back half) in about 8-12 feet of water alongside wood between the channel and the spawning flats on the northern end of the lake should be HHHHHOT. Glade is where the spawn starts on Fork so if you don't find fish go to the left side of Glade and jerk some lips. Let us know how it goes. BC57 Quote
