cgs2004 Posted February 16, 2006 Posted February 16, 2006 My girlfriend's Dad has a house in Richland MO. His house is on 85 acres and overlooks the Gasgonade River. Last summer I took my kayk on the river and just tore up the smallmouth. This was in August when it was really hot out. That place has to be killer in the spring/early summer. I can't wait to get down there again. Quote

405z06 Posted February 18, 2006 Posted February 18, 2006 You live over by Denny Dennis Hardware. About 30 mins from me. Ever go in there much? Yeah, probably less than 2 miles away. I fish a lot of live bait (shiners) and get them at Denny Dennis. The weird thing is that they are closed on Sundays (and Mondays). So, if I fish on Sunday and want to use live bait, I have to go to a pay lake at Hwy 21 & 141 to get shiners. Heading to Bass Pro Shop in St Charles tomorrow to prepare for my trip to Stick Marsh next week 8-) I'm bored today and it's 15 degrees outside, so i made a map Quote
srv1990 Posted February 19, 2006 Posted February 19, 2006 Hey 405z06, just curious, can you fish in George Winter and if so is there anything worth fishing for? From the map it looks like you can practically cast to the lake from your back yard! ;D Quote

405z06 Posted February 19, 2006 Posted February 19, 2006 I've never fished it, but here is a copy and paste of someone's remarks from this forum about the area from another thread: You've got to go above St. Clair to get into some decent Smallie action.Believe it or not, even though the lower Meramec is dingy, offcolored and junky, it's got some pretty decent LM bass in it. I've personally caught fish up to 3 1/2 lbs. I was in the flood of 1993 and lost my house, when I went back to the property as the water had receded to about 6- 12" deep, I was amazed at all the LM bass fingerlings in the water cruising around. When it warms up I'll walk down and see if there is any interest in a Wiggle Wart. Quote
Siebert Outdoors Posted February 20, 2006 Posted February 20, 2006 I've Goose hunted in that area and it looks real good for fishing. Lots of gravel, chunkrock, and standing weeds and brush. Just never fished there. Quote
Fishing Doug Posted February 22, 2006 Posted February 22, 2006 I am in St. Louis....Clayton to be exact. Most of my fishing is back my parent's farm which is the other side of Columbia MO. Always looking for private lakes to fish within the area and/or someone to fish with if anyone has any suggestions.... Quote

When it warms up I'll walk down and see if there is any interest in a Wiggle Wart. That would be me. I live down in Arnold and yes, I was shocked as I waded through my old yard, in about 6-12 inches of water, at all the LM bass fingerlings swimming around. I've caught plenty of LM bass on the lower river, the problem is getting to them. The river is really only full of decent, runnable water only from around the end of April till the first week in July and the past couple years the only time there's been enough water was when the river was high, muddy and full of debris. When you can fish, I look at bends in the river, creek channel inlets, mud banks that suddenly have some rock on them, anything to break the current. If the rivers up, look for the fish to hold on flooded bushes along the current edges. Another good place is the sewer treatment plant outlet pipe directly across from the mouth of the cove where Meramec Marina is. As for the old sand pits? I've skied and tubed around in those sand pits many times. Partied on the sand beaches. They're around 20-40 feet deep in most areas. The banks drop off fast. The bottom is mostly sand and mud. There is virtually no cover at all in either of the 2 "lakes". Those big pits would be the last place I'd look for bass. Quote
bigdog Posted April 8, 2006 Posted April 8, 2006 I'm in St.Charles always willing and able to drown worms just pm me.; ;D Quote
Fat Rap Posted April 8, 2006 Posted April 8, 2006 I'm the new guy here, and am always ready to throw some lines. During the weeks are best for me. I live in St. Louis, and thus, must deal with Busch Wildlife. It's got more pressure than Kevin Federline looking at an EPT stick. I plan on hitting Lake of the Ozarks sometime - have never fished it - does anyone know if you can rent boats there? Also, what river waters arouns STL are the easiest to access from the shores - and still provide decent fishing? Quote
