ring fry Posted September 10, 2009 Posted September 10, 2009 I'm leaving tomorrow at noon to do some east Texas bass fishing. Will be fishing Fork on Saturday, Mill Creek and Athens on Sunday, and Caddo some time along with several other lakes. I've fished quite a few lakes in the area with the exception of Caddo. Can anyone give me someplace to start there? So far I've gathered that fish are in or around isolated cypress and pad/hydrilla fields. Thanks. Quote
friendswood fisherman Posted September 13, 2009 Posted September 13, 2009 I grew up fishing Caddo. A GPS and a map are good things to have on this lake! If you are going to fish the Texas side, I would launch at Johnson ranch because it is closest to the big water. I would look at Old folks play ground and work isolated trees and and duck blinds. the grass should be thining now and easier to fish. White spinner baits, watermelon red ribbit frogs, flukes and black/blue jigs. Good luck and there are lots of fish in top of the slot. 20 lb. stings are plentyful but not keepable. Quote
ring fry Posted September 20, 2009 Author Posted September 20, 2009 We had the gps, but I'm glad I bought a map. Wow, that place could get scarry!! Absolutely beautiful but unfortunately it had rained pretty good and there was a major current issue. Only fished it for a half of day. It's just too much for a flatlander. Should have hired Slim for a guide, maybe next time. Quote
ab8aac Posted September 21, 2009 Posted September 21, 2009 ringfry, sorry I missed your post or I could have put on some fish, I just won our club tournament there last sunday. You are right a map is a must if you get off the river, LOL, right now it is so grown up you couldn't get too far afield but during the winter and early spring you can really get lost out in the trees on the north end. Glad you liked what you saw though. If you get to come back give me a call. frank williams 903-261-1913 I'll give you a hand, I love that lake when the grass dies off where you can fish it all. Quote
ring fry Posted September 21, 2009 Author Posted September 21, 2009 Thanks, I'll definately be back. Probably Feb. or March. Quote
