bigtimfish Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 If anyone wants to meet and fish im all for it. Im going to launch at Humphry public boat launch. there is a Basschamps tourney the weekend prior but other than that there shouldnt be too much pressure, because thats the same weekend as the Mcdonalds big bass on Toledo Bend. Ill be there, let me know. Maybe someone can show me some new spots other than 5 fingers, farmers, and all of aiysh bayou. Quote
Super User fishfordollars Posted June 3, 2009 Super User Posted June 3, 2009 I can teach you the Caney, Veach, Black Forrest area. I just cannot do that weekend. Keep me in mind and I will show you what I know at another time. Jack Quote
TxNitro87 Posted June 14, 2009 Posted June 14, 2009 Hi Jack, I could have used some help today. I just finished my first trip to Sam and I feel I was lead in the wrong direction by some friends in the area. I got up at 1 am this morning and read some of your info, but got talked into going to the north end as opposed to the southern areas you mention. I even took your phone number with me (which I found here), but decided not to bother you. I am very green (about a year), and only own a bass boat because of the generosity of a man I once helped. I enjoy Bass fishing so much, but get frustrated because I can't catch a limit of even small fish. Do you have any words of wisdom for a rookie like me? Respectfully, Tom Quote
Super User fishfordollars Posted June 14, 2009 Super User Posted June 14, 2009 Spinnerbaits, Trick worms in watermellon red, 10" worms and brown/green jigs with just a touch of purple, Camo works well also. top water early on the inside grass line, and the rest on the outer grass line and out off the deeper points. Good grass in the following areas. Caney creek, Veech Basin, Colman Bay, Buck Bay, Needmore point, Five Fingers. It's like anything else though. there are specific spots in the grass and certain areas that you can miss if you are not familiar. Where did ya'll fish? If you put in at the Humphrey Pavillion I figure ya'll ran up Ayish Bayou toward Buck Bay. Let me know. Hopefully ya'll didn't run to Bear Creek. Those fish up there will break your heart. You just can't depend on them. Quote
TxNitro87 Posted June 15, 2009 Posted June 15, 2009 Thanks for the tips. I will definitely focus on using the items you listed. We launched at Hanks Creek, and never made it too far from there becuase I had to come back to pick up another person at the ramp at 10am. I wanted to launch on the south side around the dam, but was swayed. I will probably go alone next time so I can have a better look around. Do you ever fish Lake Raven? Thanks, Tom Quote
Super User fishfordollars Posted June 15, 2009 Super User Posted June 15, 2009 Try the Caney Creek ramp. It is central to all the places I listed and the Black Forrest area is just a few miles north. Veech Basin is straight across the lake and Coleman & Five Fingers is south on the opposite bank. Don't forget the areas around the Caney ramp. Lots of good grass above and below the ramp area. Call me and I will put you on some GPS spots you can use to catch a lot of good fish. Jack Quote
txfisherman Posted June 15, 2009 Posted June 15, 2009 I would be interested in some GPS coordinates on the lake as I am starting now to practice for our Championship coming in September and would like to have holes in my pocket that I can sue to put some money in the pockets I hope. BTW, what kind of gift did you get from the man from Louisiana that got a good check in McDonalds on Rayburn in April? Look forward to hearing from you. My personal emailaddress is piercedl910@comcast.net Quote

Look forward to hearing from you. My personal emailaddress is piercedl910@comcast.net I can help you with the locations. Let me know where you will be launching and we will cover the area. I will be up there as soon as I can get my mother back on her feet(Back surgery) so if you want to go with me or follow me we will plan a trip. To answer your question concerning the gift from the guys that won 75,00.00 on the spot I put them on. Not another word after they called me, thanked me for the help and said they were sending something for me. Hoping they call me back and ask for more help when they need it. I will help them, just hate it when someone pulls a stunt like that. Maybe it was lost in the mail. LOL ***For those that don't know the story. Two fishermen(I have never met) from Baton Rouge contacted me several days before the Sealy McDonalds Big Bass tournament in May on Sam Rayburn asking for some help as neither had ever been on the lake. I told them where to start and Sunday morning they caught the third place bass(10.51 lbs.) worth 75,000.00 in cash and prises. Monday after the tournament they called thanking me, asked for my address, and said they were sending something for my help. It really doesn't matter as I was not wanting or expecting anything in return. Just galls me that they would go through the trouble of offering and then not another word.*** Jack Quote
txfisherman Posted June 18, 2009 Posted June 18, 2009 We will be taking off from Humphrey pavillion both mornings in September, I will be staying at the Rayburn Marina & Resort just before the championship, but my partner and I plan on trying to get in sa couple of trips prior to the tournament. I had kind of thought of going southeast on the lake, toward Buck Bay, I did loose a big fish at the McDonalds tournament, but need to have a few holes in my pocket as backups. I did send you the GPS coordinates for the area I was in, did you get those? If not let me know and I can send again. Sorry for the other issue with the guy saying he goig to send you something and then not following through on it. Quote
Super User fishfordollars Posted June 18, 2009 Super User Posted June 18, 2009 It's no big deal. Quote

S.E. is dry land behind the dam and over toward Hwy. 96 out of Jasper. You'll run out of water in Desperation Cove. LOL. Quote
txfisherman Posted June 19, 2009 Posted June 19, 2009 You are correct, got my direction mixed up. Should have just stated where I thought I was going instead of directions. Do have places in the Buck Bay and Mill Creek area you can share? How about some deep water areas that I might go look at and see what I can pull out? Quote
Super User fishfordollars Posted June 20, 2009 Super User Posted June 20, 2009 Get your map out and we'll get together and mark some places for you. Plenty of deep water with deep grass close by. I would concentrate on the scattered deeper grass out away from the main grass. It has the potential to produce a lot of heavy bass and does not get the pressure the main grass beds do. Jack Quote
