JCrzy4Bass Posted February 26, 2008 Posted February 26, 2008 Hey guys quick question. I've been getting into jerkbaits quite a bit lately and have quite a few plastics but not many hard jerkbaits aside from the Rapala X-Raps in a minnow color, Blue/transparent color and, white/transparent color. I'm looking for some in the darker colors for dirty water. Any color recommendations or brands for me to look at? Something affordable in the 4-6 dollar range, and some that have some good casting ability. If you know of any just start listing em' so I can look into them. I hope to make it one of my new tools after watching a lot of early spring bass fishing videos on water warming up and these things absolutely killing bass. Looks like they work well in rivers and creek or tributary systems. Quote
Super User Hookemdown. Posted February 26, 2008 Super User Posted February 26, 2008 Smithwick Ratln Rouge. x2 on the Rouge. Also try the original Rapala. Quote
Randall Posted February 26, 2008 Posted February 26, 2008 X3 on the Rouge. My best colors in dirty water are most of the ones with black bars on the sides. My favorite is the Menedez signature clown color with black bars on the sides. Quote

JCrzy4Bass Posted February 26, 2008 Author Posted February 26, 2008 Sounds almost unanimous there. I already have some original rapalas. All the models minus the larger f-7's don't cast that well unless you get a good side arm type cast and there is no wind, but I wil try some of those next time out in dirty water. I'll check out those rogues and let you guys know how they work here. Quote
Super User Dan: Posted February 26, 2008 Super User Posted February 26, 2008 J, check out the Rapala Husky Jerk colors. They have some nice rapala paint jobs and several of them are dark. Quote

Gummybear Posted February 26, 2008 Posted February 26, 2008 I have to agree smithwick"s super rogue. And the husky's are good too. Check Wal-mart for some on clearance.(Rapala Huskybaits) And the rogues are pretty cheap at wal-mart too. Quote
Fishing Doug Posted February 26, 2008 Posted February 26, 2008 The Husky Jerk is one of my favorite baits overall. Had success with the X-rap last season as well. If you have a BPS close to you, X-Raps are going on sale this weekend. with that being said, IMO, they are well worth full retail price, around $6.50. FD Quote

For example, I get lucky crafts for 10 bucks but not Xraps on sale. Wish i could have both though. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted February 26, 2008 Super User Posted February 26, 2008 If you only buy one new jerkbait, the Rapala Husky Jerk Blue & Silver (HJ10). 8-) Quote
smallfry Posted February 26, 2008 Posted February 26, 2008 I've had success on all the above. I'll add a frenzy suspending firestick. Quote
Shadcranker Posted February 26, 2008 Posted February 26, 2008 Smithwick Suspending Rogue in 4 1/2 in in gold or shad. I've caught more on it than any of the expensive brands. Quote
fatmanslim247 Posted February 26, 2008 Posted February 26, 2008 What do you guys think of the bps xps hard stuff? There stuff is going to be 30% of starting friday and im going to be there, I have a couple of rogues, but i need to expand my collection. Seeing how i tend to be a plastics guy, and when im not catching fish my brother is killing them with his crankbaits. Quote

I just got the BPS 5pc suspending jerkbait kit today in the mail, they look nice, all around good colors. Haven't had a chance to take em out and see what the action is like yet though. I'll keep ya posted. $15.99 for 5 jerkbaits, seems like a good deal to me but you know how that goes. Quote
BassFishingMachine Posted February 26, 2008 Posted February 26, 2008 I'd love to give the rogue a shot, but everytime I find them in stores around here, the things are huge, so I don't bother with em. As for some inexpensive hard jerkbaits, IMO your best bet is rapalas. Quote
Mobydick Posted February 26, 2008 Posted February 26, 2008 All the above + BPS jerkbaits. I'm not sure the correct name of em. They work well, especially the suspending ones. Quote
