Super User fishfordollars Posted April 20, 2009 Super User Posted April 20, 2009 I was fishing just West of the Jackson Hill Marina Saturday on Sam Rayburn when a charged storm blew in. I headed in as I am not going to stand in a boat with a graphite rod in my hand. As I arrived at the ramp there was a boat sitting there with a man on his back in the front being attended to by paramedics. He had taken a hit from a bolt but he was alive when he left in the ambulance. I have no update on him but hopefully he is OK. Prayers are out to him and his family. Just a reminder to get off the water when these storms start bearing down on your area. It is not worth it to try and chance it. Quote
Super User senile1 Posted April 20, 2009 Super User Posted April 20, 2009 That's scary stuff. I tuck my tail and run when I see lightning. I wish this fellow well and hope he survives. Recovery from a lightning strike is a long process and some people are never quite the same. Quote
ring fry Posted April 20, 2009 Posted April 20, 2009 There are three things I love to do outside. I will not play golf, fish, or the other when there is lightning in the area. Hope he gets ok. Quote
txfisherman Posted April 20, 2009 Posted April 20, 2009 I heard Bob Sealy mention Sunday that the gentleman was still in the hospital in but not in life threatening situation, mainly observation. BTW How did you do in the tournament? I went to the area you and i spoke about and found several large bass there on Thursday but i never landed a the right size fish to way during the tournament. I did however by word of several of the witnesses around on Saturday, tell me I lost the tournament winner, a heavy 10+ fish. Did you fish Sunday? Send a PM. Quote
Super User fishfordollars Posted April 20, 2009 Author Super User Posted April 20, 2009 Txbass, Friday the largest I had was a 5.83(Not enough) and a 3.15. I was on the way to weigh it for the even weight boat but a guy from Colorado weighed one in so I turned around. Saturday I had another just over 5 (Again not large enough) and I left the water when that electrical storm blew in just before noon. Did not fish Sunday. Quote
Dub1966 Posted April 21, 2009 Posted April 21, 2009 I was fishing out of Jackson Hill also but was on the other end, just having weighed a fish when the storm came in. Guy in our camp helped the paramedics. Said he was burnt really bad. Hope his heart and other organs are ok. I was struck at work a few years back but no lasting damage thank god. By the way, I had the misfortune of weighing in a 4.01 fish. Bye Bye new bass boat. Quote
