BriBass Posted April 6, 2009 Posted April 6, 2009 I know in northern wisconsin there are limits on a bass season, you cant start til like may 3 or something... but is there a season in the lower part? Im in college in green bay now and want to go chase them in like 2 weeks? is there a season in the GB area or just more north? i cant find anything on the internet all i see is the restrictions on the northern part.. thanks Quote
Super User firefightn15 Posted April 6, 2009 Super User Posted April 6, 2009 Go to the Wisconsin DNR website and get the regs, you can down load them there. If I remember right, the season for the northern half opens in the third week in June, I"m not sure. But I do know that the northern half follows roughly along State Hwy 64-Here's a link: http://dnr.wi.gov/fish/regulations/ Goodluck! Quote
TeamBerettaGold Posted April 6, 2009 Posted April 6, 2009 Season still opens on May 3, but it is catch and release only, also you have to use barbless hooks and artificial lures only from may 3-June 20, after that its the same as the rest of the state. You have to look at the map in the regs and that will show you the exact line. Here is a link, its on page 8-9. http://www.dnr.state.wi.us/fish/regulations/2008/documents/fhregs0809.pdf Quote

I looked at it and its still not extremely clear about the lower part bc it says it starts May 3 in the lower zone, but thats referring to if u want to keep them and bag size.. Im ONLY practicing catch and release.. and there isnt a Catch and release season like there is in the north... Can you fish for them anytime before that as long as you catch and release? or do you still need to wait? thanks BB Quote
TeamBerettaGold Posted April 6, 2009 Posted April 6, 2009 No you can not fish for them before the May 2 date in the south, even if you only catch and release, it is illegal. Unless the body of water you are fishing has a different set of special regulations, which you should find in the regulations under the name of the lake or body of water you wish to fish, take the mississippi for example, bass is open year round. So to answer your question you do need to wait till May 2 for the season to open. PS. the link I sent you was from last years regulations. sorry. here is a link to the new 09/10 regulations. The open date is the 2nd of May. http://www.dnr.state.wi.us/fish/regulations/2009/hookline.html Quote
