wnybass26 Posted February 10, 2009 Posted February 10, 2009 This is a long shot, but is there any Missouri fisherman on here that can help me out. I will be in Kansas City Missouri near grandview for a week starting on March 4th. I was wondering if any one knew of any shore fishing at lake jacomo around this time. Or possibly even longview lake. Thanks for any help! Chris I would like to fish for bass, but anything that i can fish for will be cool. Other lakes with in say five miles would be cool! Quote
peculiarmike Posted February 12, 2009 Posted February 12, 2009 Chris - Might help if you could let us know what days and times during that week you would be available. I don't fish those lakes so I can't tell you anything about them. But someone who does might show up. What is your age? Where from? Fishing experience? Good luck! Quote
wnybass26 Posted February 15, 2009 Author Posted February 15, 2009 I don't know exact days and times. It will be between March 4th and march 12th. I'm 16 so I will make sure I buy a license when I arrive. I am from North Tonawanda New york, (about 10 minutes from the Small Boat harbor where the elite series launched in Buffalo). I've been fishing with lures for around 3 years, and I have been involved with many shore fishing derbies, and two Jr. Bassmasters Boat Tournaments. Quote
wiperfever Posted February 16, 2009 Posted February 16, 2009 You could try the James A. Reed conservation area if you want. They have several decent bass ponds. Quote
Super User senile1 Posted February 17, 2009 Super User Posted February 17, 2009 I'll throw in another vote for James A. Reed if you can only fish from the bank. I haven't been out there in awhile, but I believe they had small jon boats to rent in the past. Quote
allenriddle Posted February 26, 2009 Posted February 26, 2009 X3 for James A. Reed. That time of the year, I'm not sure how catchable they will be, but that is where I did most of my bank fishing growing up, and they've got big ones. Lake Jacomo doesn't have very good shore fishing, about the only place I caught fish there is in sailboat cove, and you're not allowed to fish on the dock (one guy acted like he was going to kill me). I've had my best luck at Catclaw lake, but I never fished there in March. Quote
BassLaw13 Posted February 26, 2009 Posted February 26, 2009 X4 for James A. Reed. I've caught 5+ pounders there as recent as last fall. It is slow in March but if you are patient and don't mind getting snagged often, you'll get into them. There are some fishing docks in a couple of places on Jacomo but I've never caught any sizable bass there. BTW, grew up in Hamburg, NY so I know your home waters well. Hey Allen, what's up? Hope all is well and I'll see you next month at the meeting. Quote
Super User senile1 Posted February 26, 2009 Super User Posted February 26, 2009 BassLaw13 is right about the snags. Some of the lakes have quite a bit of brush in the first 50 feet or so from the bank. If you don't go weedless you may lose a lure now and then. Quote
wnybass26 Posted February 27, 2009 Author Posted February 27, 2009 alright sounds like James A Reed will be the place to go, I have a possible canoe or kayak lined up too. Knowing that jigs are a good prespawn bait, what color would you all suggest, I'm not sure what the water color and quality is there? Quote
Super User senile1 Posted February 27, 2009 Super User Posted February 27, 2009 The water is stained to highly stained. My personal favorite under these conditions is black/blue but anything dark with a good sized trailer should do. I would also consider using jigs with rattles if it is highly stained. Quote
