Are there any good lakes for bass around omaha? Walnut creek is ok but it is way over fished but every time I go out there I catch a 2-3lb large mouth.  Is Zorinsky worth trying? Any other lakes within an 1.5-2hour drive?

Walnut and Praire View during the week are great, weekends suck. Wehrspan isn't to bad, lots of crappie and walleye boys.  Zorinsky has not produce fish for almost 3 years, when you do catch one it is usually a good one.  I fish it alot as it is 5 min from the house and I keep wishing and hoping.

There are several good lake with in 2.5 hours.  3 mile in Iowa, Mozingo in Missouri, and several in Northern Kansas that others on this forum fish but I haven't as of yet.  I buy 5 states licenses a year and haul the boat.

There are still fish in Zorinsky, and they are pretty good ones - they are just so pressured it ain't what it used to be.  Another good place to fish in the Omaha "area" is Summitt up near Tekamah - you won't land too many lunkers, but you can load the boat with 12"ers.  DeSoto Bend is a love it or leave lake - I generally choose to leave it.  I was very impressed with Wagon Train up near Lincoln last year, my club is fishing it and Stage Coach both on the same day next month.  Prarie Rose out I-80 at Walnut, IA is a good lake and not that much of a drive and Anita has really come back - I pulled a couple of 18.5"ers out of there last fall - haven't been back since, put looking forward to it.  BTW, don't give up on Walnut Creek either - if you work it right it can be super - the weather this year has kept everything going goofy, but it should start tuning on real soon.

Thanks for the info. I went out to walnut again tonight and it seems that they have started to spawn or just about to.  I didn't catch anythin though. I only brought 2 rods one for topwater and one for crankbaits. I was mostly wanting to get out there and try out my new reel (Daiwa Tierra) which I was VERY impressed with for the price of the reel. I am probably going to go back out there tomorrow and try a worm carolina style. Is there a club in omaha for bass fisherman? Are there any requirements?

Yes Wagon train is very good.  I have been fishing there a lot lately.  I believe it is so good due to there 21 inch length limit.  I have been catching 15-20 inchers about every time I go out and a lot of 15inch and less.  I dont know how many fish are being taken out but I wouldnt keep a fish from any lake unless it was a state record.  Also the lake is very dirty right now but is starting to get better.
