RWHusker. Posted August 19, 2007 Posted August 19, 2007 Well theres at least 3 largemouth left in Zorinsky. I ended up with 3 with 2 of those being very quality fish. The first was 2.5lbs 17" and no pic. LOL, laid her down by my rod handle to grab a pic and 2 flops later she was in the lake and I had no pic. The last fish of the night went 19.5" and touch under or over 4lbs, the digital never gave a constant reading. I caught her on a 7", watermelon/red *** ***, wacky style with both ends dipped in Spike It. Was encouraging to catch a couple of good ones again. GO BIG RED 1 Quote
Live.2.Fish Posted August 20, 2007 Posted August 20, 2007 Nice work!!! It is really nice to hear that zorinsky has given up a few nice fish lately. I was getting kinda worried that all the bass disappeared in that lake. Nice fish RW! Quote
RWHusker. Posted August 20, 2007 Author Posted August 20, 2007 Thanks Kyle, I was by myself and decided I wanted to hunt larger fish so went back to Zorinsky. If my son is with me I try to go to Prairie View or Walnut to help keep the numbers up. Boy I would like to get some confidence back in Zorinsky as it is so close to home. GO BIG RED Quote
RWHusker. Posted August 30, 2007 Author Posted August 30, 2007 Zorinsky was Zorinsky last night. 3 hours 2 bites no fish. :-? GO BIG RED Quote
Live.2.Fish Posted August 30, 2007 Posted August 30, 2007 Posted by: RWHusker Posted on: Today at 7:26amZorinsky was Zorinsky last night Good 'ole stand by, huh. : Well at least its consistant. :'( Quote
Shad_Master Posted August 30, 2007 Posted August 30, 2007 You won't get much confidence in the big "Z" from me - I fished it three times last year and once this year -- result = 1 12' catfish and one bass smaller than the baby ring fry that I was throwing. I know they are in there, but since the standing timber has all dropped off they seem harder to locate. What is the water level like right now? Have the rains raised the level - if so, I have heard that the far west side can be pretty awsome unless it is real muddy. Quote
RWHusker. Posted August 31, 2007 Author Posted August 31, 2007 As of Monday the Lake was down about a foot or two since the highs of the late spring. I have fished the west side bank and trees with some success but AWESOME has not been in my Zorinsky vocab for several years. Rod Quote
Shad_Master Posted August 31, 2007 Posted August 31, 2007 When I say "awsome" I mean "awsome for Zorinsky" . One of the guys in our club traveled way up the creek almost to Center Street and reported that he was really hitting 'em up there. Now granted this was back in the spring and fishermen do tell tales - so who knows :-/ Quote
RWHusker. Posted August 31, 2007 Author Posted August 31, 2007 They have to be somewhere as I don't believe the bank boys have taken them all. GO BIG RED Quote
WillMAC_02 Posted February 25, 2008 Posted February 25, 2008 Fellow Huskers!!! I just moved back to omaha from Lincoln after i graduated. I learned to fish my sophomore year and by my second senior year i couldnt stop buying lures, looking for more places to fish, and sleeping with my tackle box. I only fished lincoln reservoirs, ponds, and streams so now that i am back in omaha, i am a "fish out of water." everyone told me that zorinsky was a good place to fish as well as wherspan and walnut creek. I was wondering what bodies of water you guys and any other huskers would suggest for someone new to omaha. Quote
RWHusker. Posted February 25, 2008 Author Posted February 25, 2008 Welcome aboard Will. Zorinsky went from being one of my favorites to one of my frustrations. I fish all you mentioned and aslo Praire View up in Bennington. Keep posting there are several of us on this forum. GO BIG RED Quote
Shad_Master Posted February 25, 2008 Posted February 25, 2008 The big 3 in Omaha are Walnut, Wherspahn and Zorinsky - but you may have abandoned one of the best lakes in this area when you left Lincoln - did you ever fish Stage Coach? Our club had a tournament there last year and it was great - only a couple of really big fish, but tons of keepers. Also, there is a lake about an hours drive east of Omaha called Prarie Rose - this has been a good fishery for the last couple of years. Anita, just a little further down the interstate is another good fishing lake, just getting back on since they drained it a few years back. And of course the lakes near Creston, IA (Icaria, 3-mile, 12-mile and Green Valley) get lots of attention from the Omaha crowd. Going south there is a pretty good little lake called Pony Creek just across the KS state line (Sabetha, KS) and further down is Banner Creek. East of there is Mozingo in Maryvile, MO a little further but well worth the drive. Glad to have you on board - let us know how you do this year, if the ice ever melts that is PS - almost forgot, Standing Bear is another area lake that is pretty good, but can be very tricky from time to time Quote
WillMAC_02 Posted February 26, 2008 Posted February 26, 2008 I actually fished Stagecoach quite a bit when I lived in lincoln. I found it to be a good bass lake as well and I have pulled a number of good fish over 17" out of that lake. It was probably my second favorite lake to fish down there. I did try Standing Bear twice last year because it is so close to my parent's house. I fished it really early, and really late in the season and didnt have much luck on the lake except a few fish at the west-most bank by the 144th St. (i believe) bridge. Thanks for the suggestions. Shad_Master Posted February 26, 2008 Posted February 26, 2008 Don't give up on Standinb Bear - two years ago, I had a 20.75" from the second cove down from the dam on the south side and lost out for big bass to a 21" from just west of the rip rap area on the north side. Last year my non-boater pulled a 19.75" from "cemetery ridge" about half way up and I got several keepers on the north end where it turns toward 144th. That tourney was won from the grass edge along the south side between the dock and "cemetery ridge". I heard that they stocked SB with trout last fall, hopefully that made the bass fat Quote
wags Posted February 27, 2008 Posted February 27, 2008 Hey Will, Nice to see you found this forum. There is a ton of great info on this site. You'll have to stop in the store this spring and tell me how you like your Fuego. Good luck to you this year!! Jay Quote
WillMAC_02 Posted May 17, 2008 Posted May 17, 2008 how has everyone been doing? The cooler weather has kept me from getting many bites. Ive taken the water temp with a thermometer and last weekend it was about 59 degrees. I've been using mainly spinners and jigs met with little success at both Standing Bear and Werspahn. I caught a couple small ones on the west end of StandingBear off the rocks, the water was clear; I could see to the bottom 4' deep. the first cove past the d**n on the south side of the lake has a lot of good cover but there were no biting bass there. any tips from anyone catching fish would be great!!! bait4me Posted May 19, 2008 Posted May 19, 2008 Hey fellow huskers sounds like you guys are have a good time. I went down to wagon train on saturday and caught 2 bass one was 3.5lbs both on a rattlin rapala up in the north end by all the submerged trees. There were a lot of crappie fisher men out there. my grandpa ended up with 3. Quote
