Valascus Posted February 23, 2008 Author Posted February 23, 2008 Quote ;DWho needs a boat? We'll all meet on the east side of the lake and fish off the rock jetties. That's where everyone will head anyway! ;D First one to catch the 8 lb 3 oz. monster wins. ;D Quote
Needemp Posted February 26, 2008 Posted February 26, 2008 I think it is a good idea to hit Little Dixie again. I can't imagine there being more than 10 boats in our tournament, and not everyone is going to want to fish the east jetties. There are other jetties, and the dam and a couple of other places to fish as well. But even if we all end up out on the east jetties, as long as we don't mind at times someone getting close to us we will be fine. Last year I invited Gman and Valascus right next to me. There is plenty of room on those jetties. Besides, what are the chances those conditions will be the same. You remove one or more of those conditions and it could be a whole different ballgame, or fishgame! Quote
Super User cart7t Posted February 27, 2008 Super User Posted February 27, 2008 Actually, I think this tournament is going to be a couple weeks later than last years. Hopefully the only 3 keeper size bass in Dixie will be more spread out. Quote
Needemp Posted February 27, 2008 Posted February 27, 2008 Well if we are doing April 26, that is only 5 days later than last years April 21 date. Beside Carp, you can only catch keepers during practice I'm just kiddin'. Hey, no matter what it will be fun. Quote
harshman Posted February 27, 2008 Posted February 27, 2008 I would be in favor of dropping the limit to a 3 fish limit ilo of 5 to make things a little more interesting....and since it was hard enough last time to catch one let alone five I have fished a few 3 bag tournaments and they keep the weights alot closer at the end and makes for a little more drama Harshman Quote
harshman Posted February 27, 2008 Posted February 27, 2008 One more thing was it decided on to make this a pay tourney or are we gonna do the same as last year with the big ole' bag o' baits???? Personally I like the bait idea more braggin rights that way and it doesn't seem to hurt as bad as just handing money to someone..... of keeping it Harshman Quote
Valascus Posted February 28, 2008 Author Posted February 28, 2008 I like the three fish bag instead of five. Lord knows it was tough enough catching one or two. I think the voting for length limit works for me as well. We will probably have to vote on what to do about the winnings. I could care less either way if it's cash or baits. So, let's see. Who do we have so far? Valascus Thats Mr. carp7 harshman and his wife Needemp M_Fields BassChaser57 ring fry jaskoh Daniel My Bratwurst RottManK9 and ninerMan CLTodd Brain1976 skunked again Calling Dink and GMAN! ;D Where dey be at? Quote
harshman Posted February 29, 2008 Posted February 29, 2008 Looks like a great line up so far, Val how many boats did we end up with last year? This looks like we are gonna have alot more. Quote
Valascus Posted February 29, 2008 Author Posted February 29, 2008 I think we had seven boats last year. If the tournament were to go off tomorrow we would have seven boats. So far so good. I am gonna shoot a few other MO members I know of some PMs to let them know the tournament is on. Quote
Needemp Posted February 29, 2008 Posted February 29, 2008 My vote is for $10 a boat or per person. I like the baits idea, but this way you can buy your own baits or whatever you want. Besides, we should just ask Carp7, he's gonna be the one collecting the winnings, right Carp? Quote
IllinoisBasser Posted February 29, 2008 Posted February 29, 2008 Provided I don't have a tournament. you can count me in. Dink is without a computer. I'm sure he'll be interested. you'll need to call him. I'll be bringing my little Jon and possibly Dink with his boat Quote

Needemp Posted March 3, 2008 Posted March 3, 2008 OtterAKL, welcome to the board. Good to have ya! But watch out for that Jaskoh guy. He's all bark. If ya want to shut him up just ask him what his 'Biggest Accomplishment in Fishing" is? Otter, as far as how to fish that lake, I only know a small percentage of it, and I had success on one typical pattern. You can go back to our original tournament thread and see the results. (BTW, that bass in my avatar was the 8.3 that came from that tourney.) But reading those results applied to that day specifically. I fully expect conditions to be different and if they are, I have some different ideas of what to do. The best advice you can get is this; study bass! Not lakes, not spots, just bass. If you find what bass do in dirty, clean, stained, shallow, deep, sunny, cloudy, cold, hot, cooling or warming water and all the combinations, you will be on your way. Study bass and it won't matter so much what lake you go to. Also, all waters fish differently at different times. If a lake gets dirty from a bunch of rain, you will have to fish the lake accordingly. Otherwise if you are only going to fish Little Dixie, the results of last years tourney will get ya started. Good luck! Quote

Super User cart7t Posted March 3, 2008 Super User Posted March 3, 2008 I've fished Dixie since the mid 70's on and off. Mostly off the past 10 years. The lake was originally impounded in the latter 60's. It's maximum depth is around 25-30 feet. There are no contour maps of the lake that I know of. They left much of the timber uncut in the basin but most of that has long since rotted and decayed away. The upper 1/2 of the lake used to be the place to go but it has silted in pretty badly over the years. Several of the smaller creek arms on the lake have also silted in and have lost a lot of depth and structure character. Rock fishing jetties were added around 20 years ago. There is also brush that's been sunk by the conservation dept., mostly on the lower end of the lake. The biggest bass caught out of the lake was an 11lber but that was way back in the 70's. Mike caught several good fish in last years T but the majority of bass in that lake are in the 12-14" range and seem locked at that size. The lake has a slot limit to encourage growth though it doesn't seem like it's working. Quote

OtterAKL Posted March 3, 2008 Posted March 3, 2008 Alright well I'm interested. I would like to be put in for the tourney and will be bringing my buddy with me. Getting excited already! EDIT: I know there are boats to rent at Little Dixie, but I don't have a trolling motor. Any suggestions? Thanks! Quote
