Alaskan390 Posted April 10, 2008 Posted April 10, 2008 Hi, I grew up in Alaska and lived and breathed to fish. I fished just about everyday during the spring/summer/fall unless work or school prevented me. However Trout and Salmon are alot different then bass and catfish. I have the main jist of it. I use carolina rigs alot, top water frog lures, spinner baits, but have not caught a single fish in 15 trips. It is getting real frustrating as where I grew up I called it *catching not *fishing. I still love to go and just get out, I dont need to catch a bunch of fish to be happy, just one would be nice lol. I dont have a boat so that may be part of the problem. I live in Weatherford, Tx and have went to lake weatherford, sunshine lake, brazos river and a lake near haltom city. I have a friend who is from colorado and is good bass fisherman, but we cant seem to find a location. Please if someone could help me out, I cant drive TOO far but 30+ miles is ok. I just want to catch some fish soooooooo bad as its one of my biggest passion to fish. So if someone could let me know a good freshwater bank fishing spot I would really appresiate it. And if someone has an extra seat on a boat and wouldn't mind me coming along and showing me the tricks of the trade I would buy lunch. Thanks and hope to hear from ssomeone soon. Quote

txbass1 Posted April 10, 2008 Posted April 10, 2008 WOW, what a fishing culture shock for you! I have an Aunt & Uncle in Anchorage who love to fish & have all the toys to do it right. Too bad you are in DFW area instead of Houston....or I would try to help you out. I had a dream day on Lake Conroe Monday morning Quote
bighed Posted April 11, 2008 Posted April 11, 2008 First, a big welcome to the forum and to Texas. You'll find lots of folks willing to help you out around here. Fishing is a little different down here than what you had up North. Catching bass that have plenty of forage can be a real chess match. Right now you are in luck though. The spawn is in full swing and the fish are shallow. If you look on a map a little North of you is Bridgeport lake. Head up to the Wise County park on the upper end of the lake and give it a try. Walk the bank and fish any logs or brush you can find in the water. I mean don't be shy, put your baits all over them! I'd take a single rod with 12-15 pound line and a couple jigs, senkos, and worms, or whatever in watermelon or pumpkin. Keep an eye out for snakes. Take your time and have some fun. big Quote
Red Posted April 12, 2008 Posted April 12, 2008 welcome, i moved to texas about a year and a half ago from minnesota. i am in waco so i dont know much about your area. but you might check local golf courses and see if they allow the general public to fish in their tanks. just an idea. but the best advice you will find will be from the folks here on this forums. dutchb Posted April 13, 2008 Posted April 13, 2008 Welcome to Texas!!! You came to the land of milk and honey for bass fishing when you came to Texas. When you get your feet on the ground you just have to try some of our larger impoundments, Sam Rayburn, Toldedo Bend, Lake Fork, Choke Canyon, just to name a few. There are a few smaller bass lakes not too far from you, Lake Grapevine, Possum Kingdom, Lake Granbury, and Lake Whitney. They all have bass. Catfish are all over the place and just starting to spawn. Here on Lake Conroe you can catch them anywhere along the bulkheads. Just walk anong the shore and haul them in. Cut shad works about the best, but practically any stink bait will work. Good luck and good fishing Quote
hachiebassin323 Posted April 17, 2008 Posted April 17, 2008 Hey I'm in hachie, but I used to live in west fort worth and fished weatherford occasionally. Just do simple stuff.. try a rattle trap, spinner bait/buzz bait.. and you cant beat a good ol fashioned texas rigged worm.. Try red shad or any color really... once you get a couple texas bass under your belt.. I don't reckon you'll care to fish for much else. and I'm new on here so a shout out to all 'em texas boys! lil d Quote

Super User fishfordollars Posted April 18, 2008 Super User Posted April 18, 2008 Welcome aboard. You need a back seat in a boat. If you want to drive to rayburn just PM me and you have it. Quote
Super User Matt Fly Posted April 22, 2008 Super User Posted April 22, 2008 Welcome to Texas and the forum. You have some great bassing around Waco. And some Super Bassing 3 hours away at Fork, Rayburn, TBend just to name a few. Hookem Quote
GeneinTX Posted April 28, 2008 Posted April 28, 2008 Although I haven't fished Waco itself, there are a number of good lakes in your immediate proximity. Take a look at this link. The records page tells you what is availalbe in the waters nearby. http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/fishboat/fish/recreational/lakes/belton/ I fish Belton and Stillhouse which are both less tahn 50 miles away and have pretty good fishing. You also have Lake Whitney not too far away. Let me know if you need any more info. Quote
Cypress Posted April 30, 2008 Posted April 30, 2008 Welcome to texas. The best advice I could give you for just catching fish from the shore is to look for ponds at city parks, libraries, golf courses, etc... I lived in Carrollton for several years and found myself fishing in all kinds of places that nobody would have ever thought of, and caught some pretty decent fish. And if you happen to be outside of the city limits don't be afraid to talk to some of the farmers and ranchers around you, they may have stock tanks that will hold fish. Good luck, and if you ever find yourself in canton shoot me a pm I know lots of places to wet a hook Quote
