New to bass fishing Posted April 16, 2008 Posted April 16, 2008 So after several years of conquering the trout streams and rivers of Missouri, a buddy and I are going to start trying to fish missouri lakes for bass. I have been bass fishing a few times in the past but never really had the time, or money to learn. We are taking are first trip in early May any tips on colors, baits, tatics, or any other general bass fishing tips you may have would be great. We are going to pomme de terre so if you know any good spots let me know. Thanks for the help. Quote
Damien Posted April 16, 2008 Posted April 16, 2008 fishing a lake blind is pretty tough, i would suggest getting a good map of the lake to help narrow down your search of the bass. also talk with the local bait shop on the lake and see if anyone has had some good catchs. if the lake is anything like the ones here in kansas the bass are about to spawn right about now, so if you are going in may i would start with flats and channels for big females coasting along, if you want to just have fun and catch fish i would fish shallow along weed beds and suken timber for active fish. try anything and every thing you got on hand. lipless cranks would be ideal for the flats, and senkos, jigs, flukes, and shallow running cranks for every where eles. you could try jigs in the flats and channels but more than likley the big females will be suspended so bottom fishing might not be the answer. just experment and have fun. Super User Bankbeater Posted April 16, 2008 Super User Posted April 16, 2008 Read the articles on this site. They really helped me when I started. Quote
Shad_Master Posted April 16, 2008 Posted April 16, 2008 Don't know much about pomme, but since you are in the heart of bass country you and your buddy may want to consider hiring a guide. I know an excellent one for Table Rock - if you are interested PM me. Quote
Quinn Posted April 16, 2008 Posted April 16, 2008 I haven't fished Pomme, but the weather has made alot of the water here really "brown" More rain and stuff comming. Come on down and give it a shot. I agree read up on the articles that teach muddy water (darker colors) try anything you have if you have the time. Bass are biting all around this part of the great USA. If you are in MO you might find some good folk to meet you there. Quinn Quote
New to bass fishing Posted April 17, 2008 Author Posted April 17, 2008 Thanks for the tips. I am really thinking alot about the water levels, hopefully the rain is not too bad the rest of the weeks leading up to my trip. I am going to have fun even if i catch anhting or not. I can always switch to cat, or crappie if I get bored. Thanks again and if you have anymore tips let me know. thanks Quote
