FisherCouple Posted February 16, 2008 Posted February 16, 2008 Anyone out there familiar with any of the lakes in Arkansas that they really like for largemouth or smallies?? We would be going over the summer and hoping to get some tips about which lakes may be better fishing than others that time of year. Quote
Trail Posted February 17, 2008 Posted February 17, 2008 Have you thought about Norfork lake in Mountain Home? Also which part of Arkansas you coming through? I myself live on the M.O line, near Popular Bluff, but am very familiar with Little Rock area, Also, N.E Arkansas, where you have a wide variety of some very nice lakes in these parts...give me a yell, let me know your intentions, and If I cant help you, maybe I can start you in the right direction. All in all, your gonna love our lakes. Quote
Super User Catt Posted February 17, 2008 Super User Posted February 17, 2008 Trophy-sized lunkers: Beaver, Bull Shoals, Dardanelle, Greers Ferry, & Norfork Quote
FisherCouple Posted February 17, 2008 Author Posted February 17, 2008 Thanks for the input Cat....I take it you've fished these lakes? If so, do any of those you listed stand out more than another one? Quote
Super User Catt Posted February 17, 2008 Super User Posted February 17, 2008 I have a good friend who lives on Beaver & fishes the others; I've only fished Bull Shoals & Greers Ferry Quote
village angler Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 Fishing has been good on Ouachita and Hamilton the last week. Several 8+Pound bass with lipless crank baits and jigs fish on grass edge. Quote
L-Train Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 If you are around SW Arkansas, check out Millwood. I grew up in Arkansas, Fished all the lakes mentioned above. Millwood is my favorite by far. Quote
chasescott Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 if you are going to the north central part of the state, i would recommend Greers Ferry. It is a large clear lake, with lots of nice bass. It has smallmouth, largemouth, spots, whites, hybrids and walleye. i fish that lake about 20 times throughout the year and usually always have a good time on it. Quote
Crowcommander Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 Not sure if you're headed for the southern part of Arkansas, but check out the trophy lakes the AGFC has set up where you might catch a 10plus LM. They would be IMHO listed as best,Lake Monticello,Lake Columbia, and Lower White Oak.Crowcommander Quote
PaparockArk Posted February 19, 2008 Posted February 19, 2008 It all depends on what you want to fish for. If you want diversity then the Twin Lakes area of Bull Shoals and Norfork with the outflow of the Dams having some of the best Trout fishing in the World for a change of pace can't be beat. There you can fish for Smallmouth, Kentucky (Spotted Bass), Largemouth, or Strippers and the rivers have German Brown, Rainbow, and Cutthroat trout. Quote
rondef Posted February 19, 2008 Posted February 19, 2008 How about Lake Greeson, has anyone fished it? I am going to be there from July 20th through July 25th and would love to get some feedback on this lake. Quote
Mid-MO Posted February 21, 2008 Posted February 21, 2008 What about SWEPCO lake in NW Arkansas. I doubt it would be an ideal summertime lake but good fall through winter? Anybody fished there? Quote
igtat900 Posted February 22, 2008 Posted February 22, 2008 Fishing has been good on Ouachita and Hamilton the last week. Several 8+Pound bass with lipless crank baits and jigs fish on grass edge. At hamilton I fished a tournment there feb 17 th and was a very tough lake wont be going back Quote
spl156 Posted March 19, 2008 Posted March 19, 2008 If you are looking for a trophy size bass I would give pendelton a try. Either run up ruver to coal pile or down river to lake merasach both are great fishing and hold some of the largest bass in the state. Lake dardnell in central arkansas is a good choice also.Hope you catch a wall hanger Quote
