plymouthrockbass Posted January 26, 2011 Posted January 26, 2011 Heard from an old co-worker that some of st. croixs rods are being made in China now. Is there any truth to this? I always thought that St. Croix manufactured all their products in the U.S.A, thats part of the reason they were so appealing to me. If they are being made in China that would be a real bummer > Quote
Whets Lines Posted January 26, 2011 Posted January 26, 2011 I think your co-worker may have been misinformed or was thinking of another rod company. To my knowledge, their rods are only manufactured in their factory in Park Falls, WI and their factory in Fresnillo, Mexico. The Triumphs, Eyecons, and Mojos are all made in Mexico. The rest are right here in Wisconsin. Whets 8-) 1 Quote
crankbait2009 Posted January 26, 2011 Posted January 26, 2011 i agree, i recently received a st croix catalog int he mail and it has MADE IN THE USA written all throughout!!! Quote
Ern Posted January 26, 2011 Posted January 26, 2011 Original Triumphs were made in China. I have had a few and they were good rods. I still have a 5' UL that is a GREAT rod. They have since moved them to the Mexico plant. So current rods are USA or Mexico. Quote

Super User ww2farmer Posted January 26, 2011 Super User Posted January 26, 2011 I have owed Triumphs, and Premiers, and currently own Mojo's, Avid's and Legend Tournament's. If it's made by St Croix, it's made well, reguardless of where it was made. Some say the early Triumphs made in China were a little iffy, but I have not seen that. Quote
Stasher1 Posted January 26, 2011 Posted January 26, 2011 I have a Chinese-made Triumph that rides in the back of whatever vehicle I'm driving at the time, and really have no complaints. It's definitely not flashy or high-end, but it gets the job done. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted January 26, 2011 Super User Posted January 26, 2011 I own a few: EC70MHF ES70MF AVC66MF AVS66MLF AVC70MF AVC70MM Great rods at their pricing point! 8-) Quote

ST. CROIX VALUE. KEEPING IT ALIVE IN NORTH AMERICA. Of course, there are only so many hands in Park Falls, Wisconsin and over the years, the undeniable value of St. Croix rods has meant more and more people have wanted to fish one. Which means every year, more and more rods leave Park Falls for waters throughout the world. Well, it's gotten to the point where we simply can't make enough in our Park Falls factory. It's a small town. (And we'd like to keep it that way.) Faced with a decision of opening another factory or outsourcing to Asia, we concluded the only way to ensure a St. Croix rod remains a St. Croix rod was to construct a second factory in Fresnillo, Mexico. If you happen to be traveling through Fresnillo, you'll find an almost mirror facility to our state-of-the-art Park Falls operation same equipment, same manufacturing procedures and the very same quality control protocols. Our Fresnillo facility manufactures a select group of rods that are designed and engineered here in Park Falls. These rods offer the chance for an even greater segment of the fishing population to get their hands on a St. Croix. Rod models currently manufactured in Park Falls will continue to be made in Park Falls. By making sure all our rods are Handcrafted in North America, we are able to continue providing anglers with the best value in angling. Quote
Guest beowulfx71 Posted January 27, 2011 Posted January 27, 2011 Yes it does. St Croix would not have changed manufacturing their lower end lineup from China to Mexico if they had not had some quality issues. Same for Dobyns switching from China to Korea. Of course St Croix is going to say the Mexico plant has the same QA standards as the Wisconsin plant but all companies say that about their products after they outsourced them. Quote

Super User QUAKEnSHAKE Posted January 27, 2011 Super User Posted January 27, 2011 A 1 minute search found this article-- http://www.simplyhired.com/a/local-jobs/city/l-Park+Falls,+WI And this quoted from article "According to our Park Falls Trends data, the number of Park Falls, Wisconsin jobs has decreased by 72% since May 2009." But yeah lets build in Mexico to keep the city small; they dont need no stinking jobs. Quote
smalliekiller Posted March 29, 2011 Posted March 29, 2011 Go through your fishing gear and try to find things that are made in America. I will wish you luck in finding more than a few. I don't want to get political but companies outsource because our country encourages it and we keep buying the products. It is hard to buy U.S made all the time but when things like this happen we should stick together and stop buying their product. With the exception of one Finwick I have only St. Croix rods and a lot of them. I don't care what the excuse is, it is just another company worried about huge profits, not just good profit but huge. Companies do not care about the mothers and fathers searching for jobs. I don't care if the rods I buy (Premier and Legend) are made in America they avoided adding potential jobs to the U.S. economy to save them a few dollars and sent others to Mexico and that kind of makes me mad. The world economy is far from simple but an American company in the north woods of Wisconsin did not need to sell out as well. Quote
HookSetDon Posted March 29, 2011 Posted March 29, 2011 the bottom line is you get what you pay for. I seriously doubt anyone moves from the usa to china or mexico to have better capabilites of making their product. Its to save labor costs... but at the same time the machines and designs are what make our products not the individual operating the machine especially when theres quality control monitoring the product. Wammiee Posted March 30, 2011 Posted March 30, 2011 USA. Except for some of the cheaper older models Triumph Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted April 3, 2011 Global Moderator Posted April 3, 2011 I've got a ton of St.Croix rods and I love them. I've got Triumphs, Premiers, Avids, Mojos, LTB, and even a Classic Cat rod before they discontinued them. I've only ever broke one and that was a Triumph when they first came out. I got it replaced with a newer Triumph and have had no problems since. They are a great rod and even if they did outsource some jobs at least they still have some in the US too, that's more than most rod makers can say. Quote
