I have a $250 budget and looking for a rod to throw unweighted plastics. My budget just went up $100 due to having Ky and UConn in the final 4. I'll get 1st place requardless.

This rod will be placed with the Lews Tourny Pro. Just got it last week. I would to use it for light line baits. Heaviest might be a 1/8oz/6 inch worm/lizard. Lightest would be an unweighted finese worm.

Up for any suggestions.

Thanks

Shimano Cumara hands down. Just got my fourth one 5 days ago. $350 rod for less than $200 in my opinion. The particular model I got last week retailed (@BPS) for $219.99+shipping, I paid $185 for it shipped.

That's the rod I like in that price range, you may not like it. Even if you don't buy it there, go to a tackle shop and feel any rod you are considering before you buy.

I live 2 hours from any decent tackle shop.  Hard to check out rods.

Like I said earlier, I dont get the opportunity to see a lot of rods. Has anybody got the Loomis Mossy back jig and worm rods. What would you compare it to??? Some say the lure weight rating for G.Loomis is to low??? I dont know I would use a M or MH.

I was thinking the GL MossyBack Jig & Worm Cast 6'8"

here are the 2 rods I have selected.

1. Dobyns Champ Cast Rod 7' Med 702

2. GL MossyBack Jig & Worm Cast 6'8" M

Need your opinions

The bcr802 or 852 rods are simply amazing; Just ridiculously fast and crisp.  Extra-fast doesn't do the rod justice....they are the fastest blanks on the market, which equate to unreal sensitivity. I haven't fished a mossyback, only the GLX version of the BCR series.  The Mossyback is reported to be a blend of IMX and GL3 fibers, and although it is generally stated that Loomis really 'begins' with the IMX series, I've heard good things about the Mossy's.

I would go with a custom for that price. You'll get exactly the rod your looking for and be balanced with the reel you want to use. DVT is biulding me a pitchin rod for under 250$(Can't wait till I get it) The rod will fit you and do what you want it to. Just a suggestion since you can't handle the rods in person. I'm in he same boat with the closest outfitter 2 1/2 hr. away. Good luck!! :)

Thats not a bad idea   :D.  But I found out that a boat shop, 30 miles from here, is carrying St. Croix.  I owned an Avid or premiere 10 years ago (paid $110).  Never liked it, didn;t fit my hand.  I am going there Wednesday to look at a Legend Tournament.  Teaser rod.

Can you give some names of people who do custom rods?

I have a Dobyns Champion 683C. If you are looking for a

split-grip, this is a great rod. It will work well for weightless

soft plastics, but you will find it is exceptional for a variety

of applications and techniques. Mine is saddled with a CH50MG.

Another suggestion and perhaps my favorite rod is the G. Loomis

MBR842C. I have the GLX which I purchased from someone

on our Flea Market for $250 delivered! Mine is matched with

a Core 50MG.

Well actually this is my first custom. I have all Kistler rods other than this one. I looked at the Legends last fall at my closest outfitter. They are VERY nice the clerk was jokin around and said they have to tie them to the racks or they would float away. :;) haven't ever fished one thow. :-[

Call Mike at DVT (there a BR sponsor) he seems like a honest and straight forward guy and talk to him the possibilities are endless!! :D

When I was on the hunt, I asked about those as well. I was advised to stay away because you can get better rods for the money. I got a Cumara CUC-72MH. It's really a great rod. I would recommend the CUC-X72M.

Or look at the Dobyns Champion 702 or 703c.

I'm with RW on this, even though the Cumara is likely my favorite series right now.  I'd definitely not send people to a Xfast versions off the bat, they're going to miss fish if they're not used to how fast the rod really is.

I'd hold out for an 842C, as they come around often enough that it isn't likely you'd be waiting forever for it.

I have several of both series, Cumara and Jig+Worm. (IN GLX and IMX)  and I can't say that I'd tell someone to stay away.  They fit a bill that many people will like, and others will not, in terms of both rod series.  I'd definitely recommend the use GLX over the Dobyns, very likely I'd recommend the Cumara over the Dobyns as well.

I also just bought a lews tourney pro.  I put mine on a kistler helium ltx II 7' med. fast action.  The lure rating is 1/16-1/2oz.  Its definitely a light duty rod.

I used a 6'6" ltx mh last summer and really liked it.  The mh's are 1/8-3/4.  Kistlers seem to be light(power) for their power rating,  but the rods are nice.
