krisjack69 Posted March 25, 2011 Author Posted March 25, 2011 Does it matter if I back it or not.It wont slip on spinning reel will it.How do u tell how many yards I have gone.I normally just reel till I see the line just covers the spool then I just put the other line on.I dont know what this not is called but I make 5 loops on both ends and then run the tag in throught the loop I believe then tighten.I have also discovered the albright knot and I am not that great at it.seems as tho I make the knot bigger than it should and Its hard for me to make the 5 or 6 turns on the line and back.I forget how many I did alot of times lol. Super User Hooligan Posted March 25, 2011 Super User Posted March 25, 2011 Nope it doesn't matter at all if you back it. It's simply to save the amount of fluorocarbon you're spooling. A money saver, if you will. In terms of knot, I prefer Alberto's, but that's not a necessity. If I'm joining two sizes of line that are close enough in diameter, I tie a blood knot. You can tie back to back uni knot, which is a fairly small knot. Not that it's going through the guides, it's more that you don't want a huge bumpg in your spool from the junction. In terms of how to I know how much I've put on, it's really just a guesstimate more than anything. It's not exact. I know that my CI4 holds 140 of 8lb (Or thereabout) so I know that 60-70 yards is half the spool. So I fill the spool roughly half way, then spool the fluoro. Quote
Super User Fishing Rhino Posted March 25, 2011 Super User Posted March 25, 2011 I won't claim it is the best since I haven't tried all the fluorocarbon lines, but of those I have tried, Seaguar InvisX does the trick for me. I'm completely satisfied with it. That's all that matters to me. Quote
Super User RoLo Posted March 25, 2011 Super User Posted March 25, 2011 If you were asking about fluorocarbon line in general, I'd suggest Seaguar Tatsu (great leader material). For spooling on a spinning reel though, I can't comfortably recommend any brand of fluoro. It's only one man's opinion, but I feel that spinning tackle is best matched with braid, and that fluorocarbon is better suited to baitcasting gear. Roger Quote
GrizzerGreen Posted March 25, 2011 Posted March 25, 2011 Spiderwire 100% Fluorocarbon.. :-[ Ive never had any complaints so far.. Quote
Super User Hammer 4 Posted March 26, 2011 Super User Posted March 26, 2011 I've been using yozuri ultrasoft for a tad over a year now, on my Sustain 2500, and Shahara reels. Unless your tryin to cast a bare hook, I don't see why you'd have problems casting with that line..? I'm kinda stumped .. Quote
MI Gordon Posted March 26, 2011 Posted March 26, 2011 Berkley Vanish Transition doesn't seem to be very popular here, I love it. Quote
Loomis24 Posted March 26, 2011 Posted March 26, 2011 I switched over to all Seaguar Line last year. I have 8lb Invizx on my spinning outfit and I love it. I have not tried Tatsu yet but I have heard great things about it. Just can't get myself(well, my wife really ) to spend that kind of money on line when I have a lot of reels to spool. Invizx though is a very good choice. I back mine with mono but that is just a line saver really. Helps to spool more reels with 1 box Quote
Global Moderator Mike L Posted March 26, 2011 Global Moderator Posted March 26, 2011 I use a 7' 0" med/ fast spinning rod for cranks and jerk baits. Would useing 10lb Yo Zuri Hybrid be a good choice? I ask because I'm still learing how to get distance on my baitcaster and not doing so good yet. Thanks Mike Quote

Thanks Mike Yes, but make sure you buy the Ultrasoft..10lb would be the Max test on a 2500 sized spinning reel. I have thrown 1/2 oz spinners with 8lb yozuri ultrasoft, only because that's all I had at the moment. On a side note: I prefer using a baitcasting reel for spinnerbaits, ect..I also use heavier line, usually 12 to 15 lb Ultrasoft, due to the amount of structure in the water. Also, I prefer a MH/F or XF rod when throwing spinner baits, it's mostly personal preference. Quote
Global Moderator Mike L Posted March 27, 2011 Global Moderator Posted March 27, 2011 Thanks Hammer Mike Quote
