DanWhick Posted March 14, 2011 Posted March 14, 2011 First off id like to say hey and glad to be here.mutt wife baught me two carrot stick pg rods ones 6'9" and the other 7'3"both are med hvy with fast tips I was woundering what they would be good for ie. Spinnerbaits, swimbait, jig/worm, our what I'm just looking for some insight. I'm also looking at getting another one tomorrow so any suggestions would be great. Thanks Dan Quote
promax200 Posted March 14, 2011 Posted March 14, 2011 Use the 7'3" for spinnerbaits/chatterbaits/like lures and the 6'9" for plastics. I haven't messed with the new E21 rods. I'm still partial to the previous gen LTX and Gold, and buy them whenever someone offers one for sale. I just don't like the almost-micro guides and the silly hook keeper on the new ones. Carrot Stix rods are great rods, though. Bravo. Oh, almost forgot. For your 3rd, look at a 7'6" hvy for frogs/flipping. It's a shame they did away with the 7'9" X-Hvy. I have 2 of those and its the best flipping rod EVER! Quote
DanWhick Posted March 14, 2011 Author Posted March 14, 2011 Thanks For the response bud I dont mind the micro guides but the hook keeper seems to be in a werid place.what can I say the wife did her best. I'm looking to get all of my rods switched to carrot sticks next on my list is a jerk bait and crank bait rod any suggestions there? I am coming from a 30 dollar rod to these rods so I never paid any attention to actual rod specs just baught what was on sale and rolled with it.so all suggestions are open for what other rod actions and lengths would be good for what thanks again sorry for long post just trying to learn. Dan The 7'6" is def on the list! Quote
Super User KYntucky Warmouth Posted March 15, 2011 Super User Posted March 15, 2011 I've not had any experience with the PG line but I did buy a Wild spinning rod at the BPS spring classic and am really impressed with it except for the hook keeper, why they switched from the small clip type to the mess they have now, I'll never know. If you can find a 6'10"MH Gold on sale or for a good price, >$150, I'd suggest snatching it up for a crankbait rod. As for the ones you have, I'd go opposite and say use the 6'9" as a spinnerbait rod and 7'3" for contact baits but those are my preferences Quote
Bassin4ever Posted March 27, 2011 Posted March 27, 2011 I just bought the carrot stix PG 7"2 moderate action for crankbaits. I paired it with a quantum smoke and I'm in heaven. I've been wanting the 6"9 version but I bought the veritas in that action. I really want that 7"3 med/hvy rod but if its as thick as the veritas black in the 7"3 then I'll pass. Good luck Quote
christine Cellino Posted March 27, 2011 Posted March 27, 2011 My advice would be to fish the first two before you buy the third.... Quote
