Hey guys. Im in the market for a rod in the 7' range MH-H power fast action. With a soft enough tip to pitch/short cast finesse jigs (1/8oz jig plus trailer). Budget is $100 +\ -. I purchased a 7H falcon bucoo for this purpose last year, I like the rod but it aint fast enough for a jig rod.

Im really likeing what I hear on the 7'3'' veritas, but I can get the verdict for $80 (veritas for 70). The veritas feels more balanced to me than the more exspensive verdict (Balance is important to me) But Id love to get the added sensitivity of the verdict.

If you were buying a rod just for jigs, which way would you go? Im open to other suggestions as well.

I agree with DVT. A used higher end used rod would be an excellent choice.

I keep hearing excellent things about the Fenwick HMG as well.

Out of these choices I like the Verdict better... I would know better after for fishing it for a season though.

Gloomis Mag Bass GLX Casting 844C 7' Heavy

But out of your price range, but I think it is a great Jig Rod

If not, I would say for your price range the Veritas Rods are good.

Haven't fished the Abu rods but I use a 7' MH St.Croix mojo for jigs. It's actually their spinnerbait rod but I really like the way if feels fishing a jig.

I have the Veritas in the 6'6 M and I couldnt be happier with a rod in the price range that its in. Sensitive, lighter than air and a great, fast tip. Ive never had any complaints.

I have the Veritas in 7ft H-XF and it is almost stiff enough to flip with. I have it rigged with 20# Stren Magnethin and I use it for C-Rig, T-Rig, but mostly Jigs, pitching docks, grasslines, light weeds you name it! I love it, I would definitely recommend it!

I personally do not like the Verdict at all, for some reason Abu went with the same butt cap as the Vendetta that every one hates and the sliding grip feels cheap to me... And white looks better to me :)

sensitivity plays a huge part in jig fishing, get the best you can afford! go used if you have to.

Im glad you enjoy yours man, but I already own a mojo (7M plastics rod) and wont buy another. It performs okay but it balances pretty bad and Ive had issues with two of the guide inserts falling out. It actually has turned out to be a great shallow crank rod oddly enough.

At this point Its between the veritas/verdict. Have you gotten a chance to fish a verdict to compare the two? I cast jigs just as much as I pitch them, at what point is lure weight on the H too light to load the tip? A lot of lakes I fish are algae choked and light jigs are needed at times. From what I gather in these lineups a MH may be better for me.

Id really love to hear from someone who's fished both of these rods that can compare.

Falcon Bucoo 7 H theres 2 types of heavy too. There's 6 and 7 rating. 6 is more towards MH but works. I have a 7 and it's perfect.

Your right, I have the first model they released the "lizard dragger" blank. Its a great spinnerbait/buzzbait rod. Really light and comfortable to fish. The power of the blank is fine, just more of a moderate fast than a fast action.

Lots of options in the $100 price range.  Between my hubby and I, it seems like we have one of every new rod that has hit the market at $100 or under, including the Veritas/Vendetta, H20 Ethos, Falcon Bucoo, Carrot Stick, etc.  The new split grip rods with foam handles just look sooo sexy  :-* , I think I'm buying them just to display them, lol.  If I had $120 to spend, I'd buy 2 of the new Academy 'Ethos' rods instead of 1 Bucoo or 1 Falcon Lowrider.  Academy stands behind everything they sell, and will take it back for a full refund if you aren't 100% satisfied.  The salesman told my husband that if 'it wasn't sensitive enough, bring it back in and we will refund your money.'  I love that!  I just wish the fishing department staff at Academy and most everywhere else would treat women like they know how to fish!
