Is x-fast the wrong action for fishing a spinnerbait? I'm considering a 6'10MHXF Compre but I want to be able to fish spinnerbaits with whatever I buy.

I do not think so I use a MHXF and believe it has improved my hookup ratio.

I use an old Falcon Lowrider MHXF for my spinnerbait fishing, and it works just fine for me. Doubles as a decent plastics rod too!

Hook up ratio might be better with a slower action, but if you check with the descriptions of rods sold as spinnerbait rods, they usually say the fast or extra fast action helps to keep the spinnerbait from "helicoptering". Keep in mind that different manufacturers describe their actions differently. I would call the action of my Loomis spinnerbait rod as fast-Loomis calls it extra-fast. It is a very nice rod, whatever it is.

One aspect of some spinnerbait fishing is that you may want to tick weeds and snap the lure free. That works better with a faster action.

In most situations for most people - not all, we are all different - a fast action rod is what you want for single hook applications such as spinnerbaits, worming, jigs, etc. For spinnerbaits I prefer a fast action or extra-fast action. The reason being that you want the power of the rod to come into play right away on the hook set.

there is no right or wrong action for spinnerbaits. some guys like moderate-fast action for spinnerbaits (gerald beck, ***** reese) and some guys like extra-fast (gary dobyns). all depends on what you like. personally, i notice i get a lot of short-strikes on extra-fast rods so adding a trailer hook is a must when fishing those. my hookup and my landing ratio is higher with a mod/fast-action rod but it's not as enjoyable to spinnerbait fish with and bit more work.

I use a 6'9" MHF Vendetta for all my spinnerbaiting needs and I love it!
