hzzhangc Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 Wow the only thing I can say is there's couple hundred in shipping alone. The time I saw the KTF for sale I cant see the pic so I didnt know it come with the carbon handle and drag star so that's pretty good price. I would like to hear you opinion about the difference between KTF tuned reel and the one with KTF spool. Since the KTF tuned one are difficult to source and I've missed two Aldebaran and two px68 in the past few months. I may pick up a Aldebaran MG7 and order the spool and bearing from the KTF. I'm fine with the 7.1 gear and not willing to pay $80 for the 7.9 gear. Of course the most important thing is the KTF sticker only costs a few bucks. 1 Quote

Someone took the sticker off this one, id like to replace it... I think the performance is about the same between the two reels. The ktf alde has a brake block more like a 4 point avail block. KTF doesnt offer a brake block for the bfs xg so you have to use the factory block. Its actually really nice with the clear brake pins. After all my testing and tuning with bearing mounted spools vs non bearing mounted spools, the performance is really close. If ktf products were easier to get, id buy a new mg7, ktf spool, ixa bearings, dragstar, and the aluminum hardware. Im thinking about doing ixa bearings in all my reels now... Heres my shallow spools, avail spool for conquest. I have the avail mag brake and stock block. Purple Avail spool for the bfs xg. I use this with the avail mag brake and 10lb braid. Blue alde ktf spool, and gold ktf spool for bfs xg. Sold my purple zpi spool for 50 series shimanos. Thats the best mag brake system ive used yet for shallow spools. I just prefer centrifugal braking... 4 Quote
hzzhangc Posted September 11, 2014 Posted September 11, 2014 Wow, very nice collections. You also got a problem after selling your 51. You have one rod without reel. 1 Quote

5fishlimit Posted September 11, 2014 Posted September 11, 2014 New arrival: You'll love it! I can't go out on the water without the urge to use this real. 3 Quote

It's hard to tell I like which one better. Definitely ito is a more refined reel than alphas with clicking drag and spool tension. But the alphas palms better in hand. Actually I feel the ito sits pretty high on the reel seat but it doesn't bothering me that much. Quote
IAY Posted September 23, 2014 Posted September 23, 2014 My first high end round reel came in yesterday! Paired up with F6-72X4. 9 Quote

Super User QUAKEnSHAKE Posted September 24, 2014 Super User Posted September 24, 2014 For rods, i found two new 6'5 & 6'10 cumulus rods, so i scooped them up and sold my buddy my old ones. Also sold him 2 of my 1st gen cumaras. Ive been wanting to try the quantum smoke rod for a few years now, finally picked up the 6'6 medium at the TW sale, and grabbed a new 6'8 medium cumara. Was pretty impressed with that smoke rod, especially at $100. 3.1 oz's, pretty balanced, should be a good rod to take out in the kayak. First quantum product ive bought in 15+ years Used my smoke rod as my main bc rod for a few years now its held up very well. I bought another during that sale. Feels very good in hand with like you mention very light weight and well balanced even with light bc reels. Hope it does well for you too. 1 Quote

Crankinstein Posted September 27, 2014 Posted September 27, 2014 Got a nice 3lb striper on the pop-x lastnight, really got to test out the drag and shallow spool on that alde... Gear 6'5 Cumulus Alde bfs xg/ ktf spool 6lb Maxima ultragreen GG Bass Pop-x Nice!! The pop x is one of my go to baits for hybrids and stripers. The one two punch for me is the pop x and spro little john Md. That bfs looks awesome, how do you like that ktf spool? How does it compare to the stock bfs spool? I'm ready to get into the shallow spool game, I have a alphas finesse custom on its way from Japan right now. 1 Quote
thehooligan Posted September 27, 2014 Posted September 27, 2014 Thanks man, the stock bfs spool is decent. At around 11grams you can throw weightless plastics, really excels at 1/8oz. The ktf spool is 7grams. Start up speed is great, I get nice distance on 1/16 plastics which I mostly throw. I can send a popx a country mile... The alphas finesse is a sweet reel, would be real nice with the Megabass finesse spool... 2 Quote
Super User rippin-lips Posted October 3, 2014 Super User Posted October 3, 2014 This arrived today. Purchased it on the 29th and it came from Japan in a few days. Quickest shipping I've ever seen. Will be put on a Phenix Recon 2 7'1 ml over the winter. For now I threw it on this med/mod falcon I had around. Spooled it up with some Yo Zuri #6 and threw in some boca os7's I had extra. Can't wait to try it out. 3 Quote
thehooligan Posted October 3, 2014 Posted October 3, 2014 Sweet reel, gonna make a great finesse combo with that recon... Quote
Super User rippin-lips Posted October 3, 2014 Super User Posted October 3, 2014 I messed with it this morning tossing a bare 3g jig head. It's one sweet reel. Now I just have to learn to use finesse tactics haha. Quote

Very hard for me to find a rod that will load properly with 1/8oz. and the Recon was one of the rods that was recommended. Nice reel as well. Quote

I tried to pull the trigger the other day but TW wouldn't allow me to use 2 different cards to pay with. 1/8oz plus a tube or grub will be the smallest I use. For you enthusiast, what's a good price on these reels? I feel that I did pretty good but I'm curious. Quote
hzzhangc Posted October 4, 2014 Posted October 4, 2014 For that condition I would say 230-250 include shipping is fine. 1 Quote
