DelcoSol - I really dig my 2 Scorpion XT 1001s with super ship. I also have the Core and agree with TTs assessment that something about the aluminum version, pretty much being this reel casts a little better and feels super nice. I don't think you would be taking a step back at all, with enough money left over to tune and dress it to the nuts.

Thanks for the replies guys. I want to go and get my hands on a Core maybe tomorrow and make a decision after this weekend. Matt, it's funny you mention having large hands and not liking the Ci4. I also have large hands and you would think that the larger reel would't be a problem but it seems to be. I love how small the Aldebaran BFS is. My hand engulfs it and it is so light.

Do you guys know anything about the Shimano Exsence? What size is it? I am curious as to how the DC cast control is.

I have one, its awesome.  Super smooth. On the heavy side but it doesn't bother me.  The DC system is fookin awesome..  I has a special night mode where you don't even have to thumb it at all, even when the lure hits the water. Theres a extensive reader review on it on TT which is spot on.  For $300 its tough to beat. Its got the body of the Core100/Chronarch D but with X Ship, so its basically the same size as the new Metanium but higher.  Heres some pics.

The Excense DC is the same size as a Chronarch D series. Its a little big and heavy, but well.....I mean well worth it

Exsence uses the same body as a Core 100.

Just Picked her up yesterday. Med-Heavy carbonlite, BPS Pro Qualifier 7.1.1, with 40lbs braid. It is going to be for frogs mostly but I other things also as I learn. I can't wait to get on the water with it.post-48213-0-74484500-1401833467_thumb.j

Very nice. Half the fun is getting the combo and the other half is fishing it.
