DelcoSol Posted December 21, 2013 Posted December 21, 2013 I have never even owned a Diawa reel and I am jealous. What is that like 10K worth of reels? Impressive! Quote
Super User kickerfish1 Posted December 21, 2013 Super User Posted December 21, 2013 Probably darn close with the modifications both internally and externally. The AOI is worth at least $700+ and the TD ITO 103 reels are at around $400 a piece give or take. On the Daiwa low profile reels this is about as good as it gets in terms of high end... performance, quality, collectability, etc... Quote
Trey Harpel Posted December 21, 2013 Posted December 21, 2013 I use every reel shown, but the TD Ao I , ize reels.. Lamborghini reel gets little use..Well put it this way..That Lamborghini reels paint was 450$ alone..Every bearing(13) is an orange seal..Type R+ gearsCarbontex dragIze swept carbon handleSteez drag star and cast control knobR+ spool and I got a SMOKING deal on it a few years ago.. Super User aavery2 Posted December 21, 2013 Super User Posted December 21, 2013 Great collection of beautiful reels Quote
DelcoSol Posted December 21, 2013 Posted December 21, 2013 That's amazing. I could't imagine spending that much money on gear. That's a new truck or boat right there. Quote
Tim S. Posted December 21, 2013 Posted December 21, 2013 That's amazing. I could't imagine spending that much money on gear. That's a new truck or boat right there. He just won and then sold a brand new $30,000 boat. I don't think that liquid assets are a problem right now.... And anyone who doubts the durability of Daiwa reels should know that Trey uses a Pixy R as a frog reel-and it is still going strong after 2 seasons. It's amazing what regular maintenance will permit you to do. if you really squint, you can see a pixzilla in the middle of the photo.....Uuuhhhhh, every Pixy in the picture is a Pixzilla. I count 7 of them. That includes the Presso near the middle left, which is the rarest iteration of the Pixy. Quote
Super User Jrob78 Posted December 22, 2013 Super User Posted December 22, 2013 Ding ding ding.....we have a winner! Awesome collection Trey!! Quote
Trey Harpel Posted December 22, 2013 Posted December 22, 2013 Lol yup! I know a thing or 2 about reels.. The pixy might be getting moved to verticle baits when the Tatula type R gets here for frogging.. Pixy is a beast... Lol To answer kicker fish.. Every reel has some sort of upgraded bearings from ZPI, Boca 7s or Boca ceramic 9s, carbontex and most have carbon handles.. Used to have a set of full ceramics but they were NOT worth the hefty price.. Quote
Tim S. Posted December 22, 2013 Posted December 22, 2013 I went back and looked again... to correct my earlier statement, there are actually 8 Pixzillas in that pic. All of Trey's reels have been upgraded. Speaking of which, I need to make a purchase, Trey..... Quote

Trey Harpel Posted December 25, 2013 Posted December 25, 2013 You are correct but can't remember what it means.. I'm sure if I googled it something might come up.. Lol Quote

Super User .ghoti. Posted December 26, 2013 Super User Posted December 26, 2013 Nice Tim! Don't you know that it is against the law to mount a Daiwa Alphas on a Shimano Cumulus? That is one sweet combo regardless! I dig the white tdz's and that blue reel is pretty unique looking. Good stuff, and yes don't get rid of the last combo! I have that blue TD-Z and I'm almost afraid to fish it. I've only had it out twice. I'm not at all into mating rods with reels based on what they look like together, but that Z looks SHWEEEET on an LTB. Quote
Super User aavery2 Posted December 26, 2013 Super User Posted December 26, 2013 What does AOI stand for? Also, how many AOI were made? From what I have heard, that is a very rare reel. The literal Japanese translation of Aoi is blue, the two characters of the logo on the front of the reel are for the Shogun family and the second represents the wolf. There were 300 of these reels made in 2006. They were a commemorative model celebrating the TD-Z which was last made in 2005. Basically a TD-Z type R with some tuning. I am going to give you a "Comon Man" I Googled this stuff in like two minutes. Quote

Super User 00 mod Posted December 26, 2013 Super User Posted December 26, 2013 Looks very similar to the new pinnacle handles. Just different colors. I do not like the knobs. Just curious. Thanks for the info! Jeff Quote

Thanks for the info! Jeff I agree, the EVA knobs are just not as nice as the Daiwa cork knobs. Especially on this reel, the EVA knobs do nothing to make it feel special. Quote
