Super User aavery2 Posted November 23, 2013 Super User Posted November 23, 2013 Are you sourcing the tuning parts from Hedgehog - Studios? ... except for the hyper knobs. I get almost all of my stuff from either Hedgehog-Studios or Semperfi-tackle. Both have reasonable prices, fast shipping and are very reliable. The hyper corks came from The Tackle Trap. Quote

Super User kickerfish1 Posted November 30, 2013 Super User Posted November 30, 2013 Sweet new reels Matt! How about the rods for these. Possibly a match for the cumulus? And the other? Quote

thehooligan Posted December 1, 2013 Posted December 1, 2013 Got em both out for a little while today. Love the fact that I opened both reels up and there wasn't excessive grease everywhere. Put bocas in the mg and its smooth as butter. Will make a great crankin reel. I don't have the hedgehog tool so I couldn't put bocas in the bfs. But I spooled it with 10lb braid, turned off two brakes and left two of the eight on. Very smooth and very lightweight. Combo is under 8oz's with the cumulus rod. Will be a great topwater/jerkbait reel and for all finesse tactics. Can't wait to burn some 1/4oz buzzbaits in the spring with the 8:0 gear ratio. 3 Quote

In my hands the Core50 is pretty much set and forget but the Aldebaran BFS is way more temperamental lol.. 2 brakes on with 1\16th oz equals backlashes for me. Oddly I get more distance with lures under 1/8th with 3-4 brakes on instead of 2. Still super fun to fish with, hope you get to take her out soon! Quote
bootytrain Posted December 1, 2013 Posted December 1, 2013 How do you like the Volkey? Do you have a 1 piece or 2? I've been considering one for awhile. Its like a buggy whip lol.. looks to be a slow to moderate tip, which takes some getting used to after using mostly fast and xfast tapers. I have the 2 piece, I do plan to get a couple more as they are pretty affordable compared to most JDM rods. Its rated 1/32 to 1/4th. 1/32 is pushing it, you kind of have to take long deliberate swings to get any kind of accuracy with that weight but distance might be 15-20ft tops. You can get the 2 piece for just under 200 shipped from rakuten market. 1 Quote

Super User J Francho Posted December 3, 2013 Super User Posted December 3, 2013 rakuten market. Look for DRESS resin knobs I like those knobs - look great on the Aldo. I wish someone would do knob screw/covers that were more elegant than a slot screw. Something like a Torx or even just an Allen head would look more purposeful. Quote

bootytrain Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 Are they comfortable? I think they are really comfortable. Not quite as comfy as the original septons since they are a hard resin material but the shape works for me. Pretty cheap too at around 20 per knob. They also come in black and silver aluminum. Quote

Oh, I thought that $22 was for a pair! $40 for some plastic and aluminum knobs seems a little steep Quote
