Well we have had 4"+ rain fall in the last 2 days so boredom took over and I did some re-spooling, swapping around and getting everything re-done. Ready to move forward with the season.

Curious about your comparison of the SLX MGL and the Scorp 70.

Very similar reels for what I use them for. I haven't used either one for moving baits so I can't compare on their castability with different size lures. IMO the SLX feels better on the rod, but the Scorpion does have that "solid" feel to it that is hard to describe. I think the SLX is more forgiving when it comes to those "oh no" moments where you pitch it a little too far and need to stop it quickly, or you hit that stump or tree you were trying to land near. That being said the Scorpion takes less effort to get going. For what I paid for them, I would give the nod to the SLX if you can get past the "feel" of the reel. I did put the Power Grip R knobs and bearings in the handle of both reels.

That’s interesting, what do you throw on that.

Its a great flip/pitch rod, heavy jigs in river current, spinnerbaits, traps and it probably gets as much use as a Pike/Musky downsize rod as it does for bass. Originally this rod had a Daiwa T-3 1016 XH reel for frogging but the tip was just too light to drag big fish out of heavy cover on an 8:1 reel. With the 5.1:1 CVZ it even makes a nice glider and deep crankbait rod that will cast a mile.

Cool, sounds like a fun setup.

It looked way nicer with the black and silver T-3 reel on it, a perfect color match to the RodGeeks silver blank. While it wasnt the ideal frog rod I had hoped it would be, pairing with the slower reel actually makes it more versatile and it gets used a lot more than my frog rod. Ive always seemed to have better luck when I get a rod and then decide what its best suited for, rather than trying to stick to a plan. Im fortunate enough to be within 20 minutes of great fishing for Largemouth, Smallmouth, Walleye, Pike, Musky, Salmon, Steelhead, and Big Browns. This rod has applications for all those species, and as you can see in the pic it gets used quite a bit.

The luna reels are all one shade of gold. The reel in the pic is the two tone 'z'. The CV-z has a dually supported gearbox. The Luna is basically the singly supported CV-X with a Z line guide and constructed from softer metal. The lack of support explains the Luna's tendency to put more pressure on the ARB bearing resulting in occaisional failures in earlier models.

As it was explained to me, the Z reels had hand machining, while the Luna is designed to better accept CNC processes.

From the picture it didn't look two tone.  Nice reel nonetheless.  Both the CVZ and Luna are the same reel in different colors with some brake tweaking.  Not sure where you heard your info...can you share?

What do you use your 702C for?

Usually a Ned Rig. I threw a Shakeyhead a few days ago, and I will probably use it for weightless plastics, light jerkbaits, and drop shot if I need to. It's pretty versatile for 1/8-3/8, one of my favorite rods to use because it's so light.

I bought one over the winter and have had it out 3 times now. It's a fantastic rod, and is very versatile.

I use it for 3.5" belly weighted underspin swimbaits with around 3/16oz weighted hook, light finesse jigs, 1.5 square bills, and shakey heads. It keeps fish pinned really well too.

I got it to replace my medium action spinning rod (in some circumstances), and it has done that perfectly.

I think it would be a little heavy for ned rigs, but I'm traditional with my neds. I use 1/16/ 3/32, and 1/8 as my heaviest, and the 702c would be too heavy for my application of it. It's a great rod , and I will get another someday.

I have a Tatula SV TWS on it, and it's perfectly balanced and a super light rig.

I have only used 1/6 & 1/5 oz ned rigs, and it does great with those weights. I agree it's very versatile. I have a SLX MGL 70 on mine, but used to have a concept z on it and that did good as well and made for a super bright combo.
