kayaking_kev Posted February 6, 2020 Posted February 6, 2020 2 hours ago, NittyGrittyBoy said: @kayaking_kev out of all those, what's your fav? I can't really answer that yet because they are all new within the last few months and I've been iced in most of that time. Most people would say the Xtasy 755c is the best one there, and it may be, but as far as usage, I will probably use the Xtasy 723c more because I mostly throw 3/8 oz stuff or light T-Rigged plastics more than 1/2 oz or heavier jigs, but who knows I may start throwing more heavier stuff if the 755c is really that good. I will definitely use the Extreme 702c a lot, mainly for Ned rigs and I have fished with it a little and even caught a fish on it and I'm loving that rod. If I had to pick a favorite right now, this might be it just because I have got to fish with it more than the Xtasy and caught a fish with it. But, I'm sure once I actually get some time on the Xtasys, I will like them more. It's a toss up right now on which glass rod I will use the most right now, depends on which one I end up liking for the Whopper Plopper the most, probably the 704cb as long as it proves it has enough backbone, because I like the parabolic bend on it for river smallies. I haven't fished with the 704 yet, but I've thrown the 705 maybe 20 cast. The 705 is a good bladed jig, medium diver rod, and for 2.5 squarebills. The 704 has way more parabolic bend to it, I almost feel I could jig fish with the 705, but people say the parabolic bend shows up when you have a fish on the line and I haven't been able to experience that yet. The 704sf spinning rod is a nice all around rod, but I don't like spinning gear and I'm trying to sell it. It has about 10 cast on it. The Kaden 744c might be my the rod I grab if I'm only taking one, it should be a good all around rod, but I haven't fished with it either. The Fury 703c is the only one I've really fished with enough because that was my first one that I got back in October. I bought it for Senkos, light Jigs and T-Rigs, but it has become my Jerkbait rod. It's also a very versatile rod. And, I will always love the Ugly Stik GX2. 1 Quote

After trying a cheap snakehead rod last year as a proof of concept, I decided to stop pussyfooting around and track down the rod I was looking at the entire time. It’s a Daiwa Black Label LG 631MHFB-FR. It feels like a sawed-off Loomis 844c and so far I’m really digging it. It cast and skips frogs extremely easily and it makes tip-down twitching a breeze. The reel is a new Tat SV and I am very impressed with it so far as well. I need to stick it on a more reasonable rod to really test it out but so far the distance and control both seem great and the reel is extremely palmable and comfy. Cannot wait for spring to get here! Aggressive looking rig...I dig it. I had the old school steez 6-3mh years ago and it was a blast to fish. I recently picked up a 6-10h glorious I'm excited to try as well. I love working baits on shorter rods...you have more agility. Quote

Yeah, “unconventional frogging” is a lonely road to walk but I’m having a lot of fun and it’s working out way better than I thought it would. I’ve also started experimenting with snaps on my frogs to facilitate quickly changing out styles in response to changing cover, but but more importantly to give me the ability to walk almost any frog in place. The short rod is immensely helpful with this as well as I can tip down twitch from almost any position. Quote

That’s a great packing job they did. How does the rod feel? How does the weight compare to your Loomis is sticks? Is it tip heavy or does it feel pretty balanced? Quote

It feels very balanced, but it’s a short rod with a lot of material past the lock nut, so I don’t know how the longer BL rods are. I have yet to get a bite on it yet, but it handles 1/2-3/4oz spinner/chatterbaits well and seemed plenty sensitive when I dragged a jig around with it. It’s amazing for walking a frog, I can get a Galvacho to more or less walk in place. It also seems to skip very well but I am not really messing with that too much in cold finger season. 1 Quote

Super User JustJames Posted February 26, 2020 Super User Posted February 26, 2020 What am I thinking? Abu Garcia Revo, man I must be crazy lol. I actually want this reel for a long time, ever since I know it use the same frame as MGxtreme, and only 5.5oz. I actually place order twice but cancel afterwards. Finally thanks to my left frozen shoulder, I have excuse to get another Lefty and happened to find a good deal on ALX. and you think shimano aldebaran is small ??? 6 Quote

dsw1204 Posted March 4, 2020 Posted March 4, 2020 I"m a new fisherman, this season being my 2nd season of fishing, so I do not have a lot of equipment. I have three rods, two reels. The rods are a 6' medium Ugly Stik, 6 1/2' Daiwa PR-S 662mfs-b medium, and a Cadence Fishing CR5 7' MHF. The Cadence CR5 rod just seems to be a very nice rod. I am not a connoisseur of rods, but it just seems to ooze of quality. I like it. My reels are Shimano Ultegra ULT4000XGFB and a Pflueger Supreme XT Supxtsp30x. The Ultegra is new and have not used it, yet. Will probably be my go to reel this year. Plan on pairing the Cadence CR5 with the Ultegra reel. The Daiwa will be paired with the Pflueger reel. When I head to rivers or creeks, I plan on using the Ugly Stik. Quote
Mbirdsley Posted March 6, 2020 Posted March 6, 2020 This isn’t everything. I don’t have my walleye trolling rods or trout rods pictured. *****disclaimer **** some of the gear ratios may be a number or two off. I was to lazy to look on the reel left to right. 7ft falcon square bill/spinner bait series paired with my brand new Shimano 6:3:1 SLX. Next st.croix 7’4 bass-x heavy paired with quantum accurist 7:3:1. Dobyns colt 7 ft m/l spinning reel paired with a Okuma cemar C-30. 7ft carbon light combo with 8:3:1 carbon light reel. Black maxx combo ( first bait caster) reel is 6:4:1. 7 ft skeet Reese medium crank rod paired with a phlueger supreme 5:3:1. One of my oldest and favorite rods 7ish berkly tactix wacky rig rod paired with a quantum accurist pti-30 spinning reel. Gander mountain guide series 6ft9 mh spinning rod no reel. Berkly 7ft lightning shock mh bait caster no reel at the moment I might buy a silver max and use it for swim jigs. pretty much set at the moment. However, I would like another Ml / M finesse spinning set up. Just seems like the dobyns is to light and the berkly tactic is to heavy for certain applications. 3 Quote
