redmeansdistortion Posted October 2, 2019 Posted October 2, 2019 I slapped this guy together out of components from my parts bin. Nothing special, 2 spool bearings, bushing level wind, Carbontex drag, 6.3:1 gears, lightweight brake blocks, and a frame from a late 70s Abu 5500C. 8 Quote

Like these reels, they are purpose built tools designed to be used. I definitely would not be one of those guys at the track with the front end covered in blue painters tape... BTW, the reels all still look mint except for a few scratches on the Conquest 101. That reel will never be sold. Just spent the $750 and have a decent clear mask put on. Quote

Derek1 Posted October 8, 2019 Posted October 8, 2019 Nice, careful you don’t flip the lake over when you set the hook. 4 hours ago, punch said: My new flipping combo! Lew's Hypermag and a Destroyer Bunker Buster. It's obscenely light for a 7'7" heavy Quote

My old Abu handles are not long enough. How long is that ripper you have on there? 1 Quote

You can get it on Jerry Foran's website for ~$10. I think it's only 3.5" long, might be the angle of the photo making it look bigger. 1 Quote

Super User fishwizzard Posted October 14, 2019 Super User Posted October 14, 2019 I resisted for a while, but the lure of that silly handle became too much for me. Also the Steez needed a rod so I picked up a Poison Andrea 611M+ for it to be friends with. The rod is more of a "MH-" and favors the upper end of it's somewhat optimistic weight range. It loads up just OK with a weightless Trickworm (1/4oz w/ hook) but really shines with a 1/4oz swimjig w/ 3.8" FI (~7/16oz). I tried using a ~1oz glidebait on it and while it seemed to load and work it just fine I was too chicken to do more then easy sidearm lob casts. The taper/power is close to a 783c GLX, but with a bit less backbone and a bit stiffer of a tip. That is my one beef with the rod, I wish the tip was a bit softer. I think it's going to be a great all-around rod for most 3/8-3/4 lures so long as they don't have fine trebles. Ergonomically, it might be the best rod I have ever used. I threw a few different reels on it and they all felt great. The combo just disappears in my hand, it's just amazingly comfortable to both cast and work a lure with. I dunked my hands and the grip somehow does not feel slick at all, but at the same time there isn't that "sticky" feeling cork gives you. I heard rumors of new models being offered in the spring and if Shimano offers a PA version of the 73ML Expride it will be a day one buy for me. 11 Quote
