What I've used over the last 5-6 years or so was just a 2 piece ugly stick with a president 6940 spinning reel with some vanish fluorocarbon on it. Has done everything i needed it to do but it was time to expand my skill set. Picked these two up not too long ago. 7' medium Abu Garcia Veracity spinning rod with a Pfleuger president XT 40 series reel. This joker is LIGHT and is super nice to use. I like bigger spinning reels, i know a lot of guys stick to 2000-2500 series but 4000 works well for me. This is my do whatever I want rod, good with top water but good for spinners/cranks/finesse as well. And then my first baitcasting setup Abu Garcia Revo SX left hand retrieve with a 6'6 MH ugly stik elite. I went cheaper on the rod but i plan on probably getting the same rod i have for my spinner as my BC setup as well sooner or later. Now that I've got BC down for the most part, i'm putting some 40 lb 832 braid on it. This is my top water rod. So since Gander MTN is going out of business, I went an capitalized on their sales and picked up a 7'1" MH fast St Croix mojobass bait casting rod to replace the floppy ugly stik I have been using. It is WORRRLDS better, casts further and more sensitive. Caught a striper on it today with a rattle trap on lake norman LOL. Was gunning for Largemouth. Also have switched out to 40lb 832 Suffix on my Revo SX and 20 lb Power Pro super slick on the spinning setup. Both are awesome. 1 Quote

That ugly stick may be a bit floppy in the tip but with all that backbone it will still serve you well as a big treble hook bait thrower. Perfect for swimbaits, glides, spinners etc. I'd personally put a cheapish reel on it, some 12/15# CXX and call it a compliment to your braid setup. 2 Quote
Super User fishballer06 Posted May 9, 2017 Super User Posted May 9, 2017 My first DC reel. Her partner in crime should be arriving today. 11 Quote

Super User fishwizzard Posted May 10, 2017 Super User Posted May 10, 2017 Very nice. By coincidence, this afternoon I found a Pop-X sitting snagged on a branch within easy reach of the bank. Tied it on and caught a tiny bass like my second cast. Some of those colors are crazy, what's the name of the green one, bottom row, five over from the left? 1 Quote

That actual bait is called SEKISEI INKO. Definitely a good looking set. 1 Quote

And how easy is it to change one of those screws that hold on the side plate to a different color? Thanks! Quote

Most of the really limited colors have to be bought from Yahoo Japan auctions, or pay top dollar if someone has them on eBay. The palm side plate screw isn't too bad to change. Just have to take everything apart. It's held in place by a tiny e clip. Quote
Super User fishwizzard Posted May 10, 2017 Super User Posted May 10, 2017 Man, I have never really looked at the color options Megabass has out there. Some of them are just beautiful. I think I wanna buy an old panel van and have it airbrushed in this pattern; 1 Quote

Pull em out on a rainy day and I'm like a cat under a christmas tree... Entertained for hours! Unreal quality and finishes. I can't even start naming my favorites because I'll be here all darn night lol Quote

nocluefisher Posted May 11, 2017 Posted May 11, 2017 The new $115 premier moved onto dobyns 736cb, the new $32, 7"6' MH Veritas with Curado 200hg. Being a discount shopper, I am into these 2 set ups for a combined $475 8 Quote
LuckyHandsINC. Posted May 11, 2017 Posted May 11, 2017 Finally got this out, unfortunately it was a very unsuccessful first mission. 0 fish and 1 lost swimbait equals big disappointment. Still fun though, with this combo. 7 Quote

This isn't high school...it's bass fishing, and I probably need to realize this as much as anyone. Quote

As far as the cold, my fingers are still frozen from this morning, 33 degrees, wind chill was 28. I caught a small one on a rat-L-trap and a decent 2# on a black craw jig in 1' of water. I could'nt believe how much that fish was playing and splashing in the shallows in that those cold temps. I remember that. It was a long time ago when the steez first came out. I think your long list of expensive stuff produced an eye roll or two. Who cares though right? TX hawgs reminds me of you circa '08. Quote
