Robert Riley Posted November 16, 2016 Posted November 16, 2016 I too am eager to see how you like that SC glass rod. I was curious as to why you had that frog on there too haha. 2 Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted November 16, 2016 Global Moderator Posted November 16, 2016 It makes sense now. When I first saw the frog on that glass rod my eye started to twitch a little. Glad you cleared that up. 10 Quote

And last lol where did you purchase the reel and rods from? I want to start buying some JDM equipment. Thanks I appreciate it. Quote
Super User Redlinerobert Posted November 22, 2016 Super User Posted November 22, 2016 The rods on the far left are the fiberglass Megabass Destroyer Tomahawk F4-610GT3 Shiryu and Megabass Destroyer Tomahawk Destroyer F4-70GT3 US Tour Limited. They were originally released in 2007. Finding new examples has proven to be rather difficult. These two came up from a collector so I snatched them up quickly. The two slant bridge rods are a Megabass Mephisto, and a Megabass F 41/2 - 68xFti Jabberwock Evolution. Also, pretty difficult to obtain as they were released originally in 2006 and 2007 then evolved into non slant bridge models. The rod in the rod sock is a Megabass Ito F3 1/2-70XSGti Jade Python slant bridge. Looks like two rods but it's actually a 2 piece spinning rod. In the last several years of searching for a new one its the only one I've found. They don't come up too often and like the other SB rods, are highly coveted. For the most part, these rods and reels trade privately amongst collectors like myself. Sometimes they do come up for sale on the Japanese auction sites. There's also a site that is pretty much dedicated to high end jdm tackle. Out of respect for BR I won't post the name of the site, but it's fairly easy to find. Good luck with your search, sometimes it's like finding buried treasure. 1 Quote
TxHawgs Posted November 27, 2016 Posted November 27, 2016 I take it that we are all checking tracking numbers throughout the day waiting for cardboard boxes or long tubes to be delivered to the house lol. ?? 2 Quote

Exactly--a little nervous that I didn't choose 2-day shipping since I'll be out of town and the wife is going to see what how much I ordered. Also, really looking forward to my first order from Siebert Outdoors. I bought a good assortment of their jigs to toss around. Quote

Super User iabass8 Posted November 30, 2016 Super User Posted November 30, 2016 UPS finally showed up. Box of goodies with this gem in the middle. This may be the most cmfortable reel to palm. Definitely feels smaller than a TDz . Swapped out the stock handle to an OG zillion type r . Stocks knobs are nice but handle is way too small. 6 Quote

Very nice! If I were going to splurge on a reel right now, that's definitely the one I would get. 1 Quote

I'm use to twisting right to loosen a handle but this one twists left to loosen and actually screws down into the drive shaft....not around threads. Kinda cool. It is buttery smooth and pitches a jig effortlessly. I can't get over how small the reel is and comfortable to palm it turned out to be. I'm not even sure the stock handle was 80mm. Might even be 75mm. It feels so tiny. The knobs that came on it were nice though. The folks saynig the CC knob being too difficult to twist may have over blown it a bit. It does come set correctly from the factory but isn't terribly difficult to adjust. I was able to do it with 2 fingers. Put it on your short list. Daiwa definitely hit a home run /w this one. Quote

Yeah, it sucks that they put a 80mm handle on their flagship us reel. If Christmas bonus santa is good to me, I might just get this one. I do give Daiwa huge props for listening to the public and ditching the original Tatula frame as soon as they could. I'm sure it cost them a lot of money to completely redesign but in the end it was definitely worth it. Quote

Any of the reels that use a bolt instead of a nut are R tight. Steez j dream Zonda and some others. That reel is definitely on my list. Probably going to wait for the aluminum version since I have extra sv spools to put in it. Quote
Super User fishwizzard Posted November 30, 2016 Super User Posted November 30, 2016 So for those of us who can't ID a reel from a single picture, what daiwa is it? Quote

TxHawgs Posted November 30, 2016 Posted November 30, 2016 Picked these up about a month ago. First pic is 2 Daiwa Zillions one 8' H SBR & one 8' MH R Glass CBR. Got them both brand new for less than the cost of one, $250. Next 2 is an NRX 894C and a Dobyns Champion Extreme HP 842C. Paid full price for the NRX and got the Dobyns w it for $50 bucks. The Dobyns is really nice, the aesthetics, quality control, cork and balance are all very good. It is heavier than the longer NRX, I think they add weight to the butt of the rod to balance it. 9 Quote
