The length for the hard case is 24 inch. Definitely can fit into a carry on but no a back pack.

I've been looking at that exact rod to pair with my Stradic. How's the balance, and the recovery on the tip? Does it feel whippy? Thanks in advance!

Great looking combo. I haven't fished that avid x, however I just picked up the sc3 Mojo drop shot rod (only 1 inch longer) and I can say I'm seriously impressed for the price. Same graphite, don't know where it's made, probably Mexico, but none the less it left a fantastic impression on me. I had it paired with a 30 size LE president and felt the balance was just fine. I was fishing tip up techniques with it for about 8 hours and was never fatigued. Just wanted to throw out my 2¢ if it can save the next guy some cash.

I've had the 6'6" Avid MLF paired with a 2500FJ for a few months and can say enough good things about this combo. It's just one of those setups that you want to have with on any fishing trip. Mine has caught bream, white perch, bass , schooling speckle trout and a few rat reds. It's light enough to fish all day and is a joy to fish several techniques. I like it use it for drop shot and weightless plastics in open water. Just today I caught a couple of bass on a Ned rig using this setup. So congrats on the new combo.

Beautiful reel.  I have mine (HG 7.4:1) paired with a Kistler Mag2 Heavy-MedHeavy XF.  I use this reel for texas rigs and small jigs.  I love how light the reel and rod combo is.  Did you get the JDM version or USDM?

This is the JDM XG. I was looking at the NRX, GLX or Legend Elite, Legend Xtreme. Is this reel is better paired with a H or MH?

I think depending on your water you fish, if there is a lot of cover I would go with a H, but for me a MH fits a little better.  With the shallow spool, line capacity could be an issue.  As for the reel's power and torque, I think it can handle pretty much anything except for big swimbaits.

The new Legend elites are absolutely amazing rods and that reel works really well with it. TT just had a very goof review of them as well

Would love to hear some reviews/thoughts on it when you get some time in with it.

I haven't been able to use this rod as much as I'd wanted to by now.  But enough to know that it's the real deal.  Had a trailer bearing fail on the way to my Potomac tournament that kept me off the water for that event (and cost me my AOY lead :()...After that fiasco I've been focused on prepping for my next event which is a lake where the chatterbait won't play, so it's been on the back-burner.  I've only been able to use the rod on a couple practice days for that Potomac event.

The rod I was using previously was a Zillion Glass 7'2" MH/R which I really liked overall, but didn't care for the split-EVA grip as much...The 736 is lighter and more balanced than the Zillion and has a faster action, power is about the same.  The 736 is also more sensitive than the Zillion...You're not getting the same feedback as you would with graphite, but you can feel everything the bait is doing just fine.

Application-wise it does it's job well, you can really move a chatterbait through the grass and popping it free isn't cumbersome.   It loads well for casting and even though it's on the long side, it's pretty good at skipping a chatterbait under docks too (to be fair though, the docks on the Potomac are pretty tall).  I haven't caught a ton of fish with it, but it handles fish well...You've got power to move them for sure but the glass keeps a nice, even pressure on them.  Seems to keep em pinned pretty well, I haven't lost any yet (it will happen though) and I've boat flipped every single one.
