Great rods! i was wondering if they were hard to build and how much per rod

They are not difficult at all. There are plenty of videos on YouTube or on Mudhole.com to see how to build custom rods. As far as price I'd say anywhere between $130-$150 for you to build it yourself. If you decide you want to build them, at checkout use promo code BM10 for 10% off. If you do not find a well enough video out there, I will be more than welcome to make videos on rod building to help whomever out!

That drag star look slick. Is that for SS sv from SLP?

New reel finally came in the mail today, Shimano Metanium MGL XG. Got it in the mail and I cleaned it and flushed the bearings. Really smooth and is an EXCELLENT caster. Only problem is it is pretty noisy, maybe it just needs to be broken in or I may need to send it to DVL. For sure going to pair it with an NRX 893 but I really need to sell some gear before I do because I have a few rods and reels that haven't seen water in 2-3 years

She sure does look good with her sister ;)

That's odd that you mention that it is bit noisy. Do you think the bearings were oiled with enough oil? Mine is super silent on the cast but I have not flushed and relubed the bearings. Maybe the reel will settle in with time. If not put another tiny drop on each bearing and see if that helps.

All of the new Shimano SVS braking system reels require periodic lubing of the brake pipe (the cone that the brake blocks engage). You might want to put some thin oil on a cotton swab and swipe it around the brake pipe and see if that helps. You might want to add a couple extra clicks of external drag pressure after applying the lube.

I had one of my SVS reels get a bit noisy recently and just lubed the brake pipe this morning. Noise gone.

The more I tinker with it, it seems to settle a little bit. Hopefully after a few trips it will be just fine

I already had done that on my initial cleaning. I'm just going to slime it up a little and see if that can fix it lol. I'm optimistic if all else fails I'm sure DVT can fix it up. I played with it in the yard for an hour a two and I'm pretty impressed. I thought about getting a hawg handle with some cork knobs but I don't know anymore it seems perfect just the way it is lol.

Yep, hopefully all is well once you use it. Honestly with the blazing fast gears and the longer handle stock on the XG, there isn't much that it needs other than proper maintenance. :thumbsup3:

Perhaps putting the reel "under load" by sliming it up will smooth it out pronto...

The loooooong awaited Dobyns Champion 736CB Glass chatterbait rod arrived yesterday.  It's very impressive in hand, but actual testing will have to wait for my boat to get out of the shop from scheduled maintenance... I've been happy with the 7'2" MH Zillion Glass I currently use, but it doesn't compare to the initial impression I got from this 736.

This is my first Dobyns rod, but I had heard of the reputation they have for great balance.  This rod doesn't disappoint in that regard, with the Core 100 its only very slightly tip heavy.  Which is impressive considering it's a 7'3" Heavy/Glass....It's much better than my Zillion Glass with the same reel.

Would love to hear some reviews/thoughts on it when you get some time in with it.

Love it!  Such an awesome reel, you won't want to put it down.  The handle is even on the correct side!

What do intend on using the rod for? I have my eye on one but wasn't sure how they would fish jigs and texas rigs around 3/8 oz to maybe a bit more.

Sharp looking setup!

Honestly, tonight/tomorrow is the first i'm using the rod lol. I'll have to get back to you. It's rated 1/4 - 3/4oz so I imagine the 3/8 would throw great. It feels a little stiff for a medium but maybe it's just how crisp it is. Will report back after i've had a chance to put it through the gauntlet lol.

Looks good Buzz! Love the chart idea as well. Only other suggestion would be to add a column noting when the line was put on and possibly the brand and type.

This would be handy when buying replacement line or to determine when to replace line. Just something I started doing this year to manage the chaos.

Well, if you HAD put a Met MGL on an 893, it would have looked like this (properly slimed up of course)...
