Steez parts are finally back from getting painted. I wish the sun was out to show it off better. It's a green/gold chameleon.

John, how are you liking the shaky head rod? I'm thinking the Ronin for a general medium power spinning rod but I've heard good things about the shaky head too.

The photo may be a bit misleading as I essentially just upgraded reels to the Stradic CI4+ over the older Ci4. I have fished the rod quite a bit and it's versatility and sensitivity is really good. I also like handle and foregrip a lot especially for dropshotting. The rod is good for anything under 3/8 oz. I wanted it initially as a shakeyhead and tube rod but soon realized it was good for about everything finesse. The blank diameter is quite thin so it isn't really powerful like you would expect in a shakeyhead rod. It seems like 3/16 oz is the sweet spot.

Good info. I'm so stuck between the shakeyhead and ronin right now. I've read the ronin is good to about 3/8 which is what I want but I heard it's also more like a mod fast tip. I need a do everything spinning rod. The main uses will be tubes and shakeyheads with some plastics too.

Ripp'n - I would like to see a more powerful and slightly faster MB Orichi model added to the spinning lineup. If you were wanting a rod for a wide range of single hook apps I would likely look elsewhere. Perhaps small light wire hooks would be ok but I struggled with hook up ratio with bigger tubes fished deeper. I believe the rod to be good at most things but not great at anything in particular.

I have never handled the XX shakeyhead rod but have used the ronin that I bought for my wife for a year and a half now. Great all around lighter powered stick. Ok up to 1/2 oz with 1/4-3/8oz being the sweet spot. I would classify it as between a fast and mod-fast. Very sensitive and definitely feels crisp and responsive. I "borrow" her ronin frequently over my nrx 822s.

Most anything it'll get used for will be lighter in weight. 1/8-3/8 being the majority of it plus plastic.  Sounds like the ronin has the power part covered but possibly not the action from what byram just said. Exactly why I'm so stuck deciding on which rod.

I have the Ronin and really like it a lot, but it's not a powerful rod.  The action is definitely Mod-Fast and to qualify that further, it's closer to a Moderate than it is to a Fast (if that makes sense?).

I use it for small jerkbaits and it's great in that role...It can launch a Pointer 65 on 6lb flouro further than anything I've ever tried.  I originally was hoping to use it as a dock skipping rod since the ratings suggested it had some power to it, but there's no way I would feel confident with it in that role with the way I fish so I'm sticking to my M/XF LTB's.  The Ronin does well with drop-shots and other open/nose hook type stuff, but for stuff like tubes and shakeyheads I think you'll want something with a little more power.

I guess it comes down to your fishing style and locations.  For me, when I fish a tube it's usually on places like Conowingo/Susquehanna where there's lots of rocks/wood/current so I like to have some power.  For shakeyheads it's usually docks and/or deeper water, so again I like some backbone.

I don't regret buying the Ronin since I throw the small jerkbaits quite a bit (especially at DCL ;)), but it's not what I thought I would use it for.  For the stuff you describe I wouldn't personally recommend it.  Hope that helps a little.

I really wanted to stick to the xx lineup. I have some now and know how they feel and so on. That helps to possibly eliminate buying a rod that I'm not happy with. D*mn you Megabass!

Too many MB users have told me the destroyer x4 series was a let down and the xx rods felt better. That was enough to steer me clear of them. That would of been my next step up but luckily I got some good guidance beforehand. Now the x7 is a totally different story but I'm happy with what I have right now. Maybe some day down the road. The 2016 destroyer lineup is said to be very nice though.

Different strokes.  I love my Elseil.  It's exactly what I was looking for.  Buying used is key for me though...  Deals are subjective when you step outside the retail lens IMO.  Paying Orochi money for a Phase 3 changes things considerably in my world, and I in no way feel let down by my purchase.  :D

It's all been the X4 lineup that got the negative remarks. The P3 and X7 Destroyer got good reviews. I'd definitely pay $300 for a P3.

Depends on the X4 model IMO. Have the rattleviper and destruction and they're both great sticks for moving bait presentations. If you're looking for contact rods, the P3 and x7 series have more choices with true fast/x-fast actions.
