The new Aldebaran BFS that's coming out

Alright, I'm done for this offseason.  Been thinking about upgrading my jerkbait rod for a while now but could never find anything that excited me enough to replace the Gen1 Cumara I've been using forever...Since my favorite jerkbait is the Vision 110, why not go with a rod named after it?  :D

This thing is very unique, the handle is short so the effective length is almost the same as a 6'9" Cumara I was using previously.  It has a moderate action but the tip is still pretty stiff so it doesn't feel like a noodle, it's an odd combination...Almost like the deep flex doesn't 'activate' until more weight is applied.  I can't wait to get it on the water, shouldn't be too long now ;).

The X4 is my 5th, the other 4 are XX's.  Check the FS sections on the various fishing forums to save some cash... All but 1 of mine were bought used.

Great rods for sure!

What's the handle length like on this? I see your OG post states that the handle is short but from other pictures of this rod I've seen it seems pretty lengthy?

It's shorter than any other rod I have by a good bit...Not pistol-grip short, but a good 2" or 3" shorter than all of my other rods.  If you line the reel seats up, it's very close to the same tip length as a 6'8" LTB and 6'9" Cumara.  I'll grab a picture when I get home and edit this post with it...Or just show you at the FOBA meeting tonight haha ;).

All this snow is giving me withdrawals so bad that sometimes I just need to get them out to look at. Hit the Chicagoland Expo last weekend and looking forward to the show in Madison at the end of the month.

Here is a picture of the newest reel in my aresonal.  Its a Bass Pro Shops extreme.  I picked it up on clearence from thier website for just under $60.  I just love the way it looks and feels on my NO.8 black out rod colors are a perfect match.

Yes, it's a tattoo studio, and that's where I work.

Scored a pretty fair deal on eBay recently. I got about $265 worth of tuning parts for $222:

  • Avail deep spool
  • ZPI 4bb handle w/Daiwa-style knobs
  • 2bb cog wheel
  • 1bb level wind kit
  • Ceramic spool bearings
  • Carbontex drag washers
  • Ceramic pawl

So, you're thinking, that's not THAT great a deal - $265 value for $222. Not THAT much of a savings................

.

.

.

.

.

.

.

.

.

................did I forget to mention that the deal included a relatively rare, mint condition (as in practically new) Abu Ambassadeur 2600C for FREE...

I hadn't planned on buying anything but was cruising through eBay looking at the usual suspects. I came across a mint 2600C already tricked out with all the usual tuning parts, and including the original box, papers, and all original parts. WOW!  I place a relatively low bid, thinking I'll get outbid in the last few minutes of the auction. There was only ONE counterbid, that bumped the price $10, and the auction closed at $222 - quite a bit less than just the REEL would usually go for. Happy Camper me !

Not too many of these around:

Holy Thumb Bar Batman !   I have some muscle memory for these small Ambassadeurs and several times I caught myself reaching across the reel with my off-side thumb to push the clutch button like you would on a 1500 or 2500.

I guess the PO couldn't figure out how to use a nut retainer with the stock Abu nut on the ZPI handle:

Line on the reel, ready to go:

Original box, papers, parts:

The reel was WAY overbraked as I received it (the light Avail spool doesn't need a lot of braking). Opened the reel and found out that it already had the short/light brake blocks. I didn't have any lighter blocks in my modest collection so I just removed one of the blocks. Casts GREAT...

I haven't caught a fish with it yet so I can't give it Goose's official seal of approval...but I did have it on the water today so I get partial credit...;)

This type of reel might not be your cup of tea....but it floats my boat !!

Saving up for a baitcaster / rod. Figure it's about time I try one out. Looking forward to trying some different techniques / doing some more LMB fishing.

The post man droped off a new to me reel today.  :)  Some of you might recognize it from the flea market forum.  It was titled a Man's reel and the description was very funny.  I after I got it I spolled it up and mounted it to an old ugly stick rod that was waiting for a good cheap reel with a clicker.  out of the box it was screamming on casts so I pulled the side plate off and brushed the levelwind gears teeth and gave it a drop of oil.  Now it behaves perfectly and will throw a 1 oz piece of lead clear out of sight.

That Flea Market post was the BEST post/advertisement I had ever seen in that forum. Your new combo looks very "MANLY" indeed...

Steeze 100HA. Just got it in today and it will satisfy the "weight weenie" user! Getting it cleaned up internally so it will be ready for its first spring outing in a few months.
