Yes, I replaced the stock T handle with a factory casting knob typically found in Curado K, Curado MGL 150. All my reels both casting and spinning have the same knobs, I just like them all to feel somewhat the same.

Overall, Yes, but I don't use all of them at the same time, half of them are my winter reels and half are summertime reels and on rotation most of the time, so they don't get used a lot if you know what I mean, but I can tell you this based on my experience that my none "Solid Core" reels loses that out of the box smoothness quicker by a little bit overtime. When they start to sound "Raspy or Geary" then I just replace the X-ship bearings and they're back to smooth and quiet again, it's kind of a repeat process on some of them that is why I keep a few of those bearings around. Maybe it's a byproduct of the whole double bearing supported pinion thing?

 

On the other hand, My Solid Core Reels gets smoother the more I use them which I find strange cause all these reels basically use the same internal parts. This experience makes me want to stick with Core Solid Reels on future purchases, but then again, in some case, no reels that are identical feels the same.

 

Nothing wrong with non-solid reels but the quality just feels more consistent on Solid Core reels IMHO.

Here's the latest, I am downsizing my collections trying to stick to what I really use in my old age. LOL

I intend to sell/give away more than half of this stuff so I don't have to maintain it. The plano boxes on the shelves are packed full. I consider myself a recovering Bait Monkeyholic.

tough subject to photograph, here's a 25-y-o monobloc Daiwa Millionaire CV-Z that's coming off my bench.  

The new handle is NS Craft with bakelite knobs.  

I plan to fish PE#1.5 with 3 to 15 g on my long shore micro-jigging rod,

and PE#2 on my older Lami steelhead rods.  

This reel swaps spools with my other 34-mm Daiwas. .

What a beauty. Besides the cv-z 105 I currently have, I am also trying to locate a relatively cheap Bay Casting Special in good condition.

@newapti5  - I found my reel on ebay, saw it was from Japan, went looking for it on Yahoo, found the same reel/seller listed for $100 less (about half).  

The reel fits and throws my SV spools just fine.  First casting trial was my stock Steez SV spool loaded with 12-lb Tatsu.  With my long Lami MTC steelhead rod, 1/4 oz easily lobbed to 120'.  I also tried to make it backlash both with jerk and high arcs, and the inductor/magnet match was good enough to prevent that.  

I have these nice rods that used to fish my Lew's BB-25SW, and I bought this reel to plug in there.

Swapped back to 1000S SV Boost spool and loaded with 5-lb Ultragreen to get a final mag set casting 3 g on shore micro-jigging rod, but rain this weekend, and I won't get to cast again until Monday.
When it's set, spool will get PE#1.5 Varivas Si-X

Yep that sounds about right for a right-handed cv-z, but left-handed ones are a different story. 

Mine cv-z 105 needs the spool pin from old Alphas series, which is a tiny bit longer than the stock one, so all the  current 34mm spools could fit.

Neat.  It has a blank diameter (hence the power) of a bass L powered BFS rod but in a traditional stream rod aperance and length.  Glass too.  What was the marketing on this one saying it was intended for?

According to Palms, large trout in Hokkaido.  I take it they're implying sea run rainbow (steelhead), Dolly Varden, white spotted char, and cherry salmon.  All of which regularly approach the 30" mark.  I got it primarily for fishing migratory steelhead, brown trout, and coho salmon in skinny Great Lakes tributaries.
