well, I bought a pair of these just over a dozen years ago.  

I've always assumed the name doesn't transliterate.

The quarry - endemic bass in hill country limestone creeks - we call these Texas brook trout, and compared to largemouth, they occupy the same fast-water niche trout do in cold water.  

 

The new toy, great ebay deal on Tailwalk Troutia 5'6" UL - before I bought this on ebay, I watched restock at both Asian Portal and Digitaka disappear in one day - both had higher prices.  

 

The rod is optimized for 3 to 5 g, and the 7-g max rating is useful.  

 

The insert is rosewood, and the metal parts trimmed with copper.  

 

The real reason and choice new toy.  

 

 

Don made the LW extreme racy using Avail parts that removed 1/3 oz from the LW.  Free-spinning the spool, the LW will make 2 complete back-and-forth traverses across the worm gear.  I made it 2-g capable swapping the shielded spool bearings for Roro 1-10-g micros.  

 

I plan to fish the same trout plugs I set up for winter glass minnows, and of course this combo will never see the salt.

For as much as I love the Millionaire CT, I wasn't a big fan of the orange spacers.

 

I found a guy on another forum that made me some new ones to match the reel.  Daiwa, why didn't you do this from the start?  So here we are now with proper silver spool spacers.

Tell me more about your reel.  I looked online and there is surprising little info.   I have a soft spot for these barrel type reels but have been low profile for a couple of decades now.  What’s your plan for it?  What do these tend to do well?  What are you pairing it with?

This is a Japanese market Millionaire geared towards BFS, one of two round BFS capable reels on the market with the other being the Shimano Calcutta Conquest BFS.  It uses a 30mm diameter spool like the Steez CT and Alphas CT.  The reel foot foot is low, so it palms really well.  I have it spooled with about 50yd of Daiwa J Braid Grand and run a 6lb Seaguar STS leader.  I fish everything with it, crappie, perch, gills, largemouth and smallmouth bass, as well as trout.  I have a few different rods I use it with, but for bass I like to use my 6'4" 1/16-1/4 Major Craft Speed Style.  For the most part, I'm fishing small cranks, jigs, spoons, and spinners from 1/16 to 3/16.  https://www.daiwa.com/jp/fishing/item/reel/bait_rl/millionaire_ct_sv/index.html

Got a Lew’s Super Duty 300 (SD3HL) from Amazon Warehouse for $115 w/ tax (Used: Very Good). Looks and feels like it was used once. Spooled up with ~20 yards of 14lb XL and the rest 50lb 832. Paired with my Genesis II 7’11” Bub’s Punch Rod. Great rod just wish it didn’t have semi micro guides so I can use a leader longer than a foot.

Yeah I think so, too. I don't use wooden knobs much, and these may have changed my mind from now on. Next I might try some others more expensive ones, such as these:

So far I like them. They look nice.

Here's my 1500C in its final form.  

It has Avail alloy frame that lowers the reel 7.5 mm on the reel seat, and a full ounce lighter than the chromed brass frame.   

Brass mainshaft is also replaced with Avail alloy.  

Haneda Craft alloy handle

and Avail round alloy drag knob

Final touches are black Avail alloy trim pieces.  

The biggest improvement was 7-g Avail 1520 spool and matching mag brake, replacing the centrifugal.  

It will cast 3 g to 80' on the 5-1/2' UL rod with nothing close to backlash.  

Capacity is 50 yds of 0.20 mm, either 5-lb Ultragreen mono, or 10-lb Sufix 832.

I've lived in the same condo for almost 6 years before realizing that my utility room had pegboard on the inside wall!  Not nearly enough space for everything, but it'll do until we buy a house.

I have an unused pegboard in my storage room off the carport.  I should do something like this.

Picked up a few Bantam MGL's and a lone Metanium MGL, so far they are decent, they are more "Sterile" i guess you could say vs my Daiwa and Megabass variants, but still nice.

What are your thoughts of the Bantam and the Metanium head to head?  I’d be interested to hear your thoughts and comparisons.

They're almost identical in a lot of ways, They're both built like a tank and they give 
you that round reel feel. Both are insanely smooth on cast & retrieve but the Bantam feels 
a little bit more solid than the Metanium as you may already know one is aluminum 
and the other is magnesium. They both cast really well but I feel that the metanium 
cast a little bit better specially when using lighter lures maybe because of the MGL 3 spool.

 

So basically Shimano rebuilt the Bantam with slightly different body made out of magnesium,
gave it MGL 3 spool, added two bearings and called it the Metanium B if that make sense.

 

The weight difference between the two are noticeable but not a big deal. The Metanium really
shines when pair with a higher end rod like the poison adrena, the combo is so light and sensitive,
it's unbelievable! The Bantam will balance most tip heavy rods out there better than the Metanium.

 

It was very hard for me to choose which one to have, that's why I ended up having both
and I'm glad I did cause they're both excellent but IMHO the Metanium is a better reel.
