I just got a new reel, an omoto wavecaster 4000. It's not bad looking reel. The color looks nice, and I like the look of round reels. I bought it mostly for freshwater fishing. It ended up being a little larger than I actually wanted. I mistakenly assumed that it would be about the size of an abu 4500, but it's more like a 5500 sized abu. The profile is a little larger than a 5500 abu as well. It's not a big deal. I just wanted something smaller for the type of fishing I wanted to do, which would have been bass, pickerel, catfish, and even some saltwater species: like stripers and bluefish. Other then the size mistake, I'm very happy with it so far; especially for the price.post-42564-0-31607900-1422591457_thumb.jpost-42564-0-23229700-1422591478_thumb.j

How much did you pay for it?

ABU used to build a 7000 hsn (high speed narrow) which was similar. Great concept too for musky anglers. You had the strength of a 7000 with less bulk.

i did not know that, but not too surprised since abu makes a lot of different reels. Also, omoto used to make reels for them as well, which explains a lot of the physicsl similarities. Having it now, it is so much easier to see the differences from omoto's body to that of the ambassadeurs. Just looking at photos doesn't help. But now I'm thinking the physical comparison should be applied with the 7000hsn you mention.

First high end jdm rod, i had a majorcraft corkish which i was pretty impressed with for build quality though.

The rod came in a few days ago when it was 28 degrees out with 25mph winds but i had to get out there, lol. Was so windy i really couldnt get an accurate feel for the rod.

So, i went out shortly today, 44 degrees and no wind. Spooled up some #7 sniper and hit the road.

Rod is rated 3/32 - 3/8oz. I wouldnt throw heavier then 1/4oz hardbaits, and 1/16oz plastics. Its ideal for my two go finesse baits, 3-4 inch wacky senkos, and 1/16oz flickshake.

Awesome. I am still deciding what to pair with my Metanium HG, that I upgraded with some KTF parts. I know the spool is 1.2 grams heavier than the Aldebaran BFS one, so its questionable whether it can successfully throw 1/16 oz jig+trailer, even with proper rod.

Edit* The finish and color on the blank is quite stunning.

1/16oz+grub trailer, 12lb fluro, on a Croix medium, not really a problem

I want to know how well it will throw just that 1/16 oz jig head :).

I know nothing about finesse casting when it comes to what is optimal line/rod action/distance but I can get it around 30- 40ft without backlash.

This was with working with what I had and fine tuning the reel for 15min with the weight. Really was just to see what it was capable of
