Super User kickerfish1 Posted December 13, 2013 Super User Posted December 13, 2013 That is the Darth Vader of Citicas. Get a few of the Chronarch E series reels and you will have a small fleet of storm troopers. Nice job on the project. One unique and outstanding looking citica! Almost looks like a Daiwa ree like a Tatula type R without the red accent parts. Quote

Nice job on the project. One unique and outstanding looking citica! Almost looks like a Daiwa ree like a Tatula type R without the red accent parts. I like the idea of Vader and ST's. Hmm…a fleet of Chronarch E's is out of my price range, but I do have a couple more reels that could use new paint… Thanks. The Daiwa Zillion Type R was where I got the idea for this reel, which is the second super-custom I've done and the most extensive to date. This was the first: I had that reel painted by a guy other than Calfish, who did a nice job…but there's only one Calfish. Sometime I might strip that reel back down and have The Master go over it. Can you tell the Type R theme is one I really like? Quote
Super User kickerfish1 Posted December 13, 2013 Super User Posted December 13, 2013 I hear ya there. I have a calfish painted reel and it is a stellar two tone reel. I am hoping by January I will have all 8 of my custom reels finalized. They do get pricey and there is always the balance of cost vs benefit. It is is fun no doubt and gets even crazier when you go the extra step to ensure the rod rod matches. Quote
Tim S. Posted December 14, 2013 Posted December 14, 2013 Here are a few customs I have sold off over time.....I kind of miss a couple of them. The Alphas Finesse Custom in the last 2 pics is still with me. I might just be buried with that one! Super User kickerfish1 Posted December 14, 2013 Super User Posted December 14, 2013 Nice Tim! Don't you know that it is against the law to mount a Daiwa Alphas on a Shimano Cumulus? That is one sweet combo regardless! I dig the white tdz's and that blue reel is pretty unique looking. Good stuff, and yes don't get rid of the last combo! Quote
Super User aavery2 Posted December 15, 2013 Super User Posted December 15, 2013 I have finished playing with these two, and have a NIB Sol on the way, another Fuego and still working on a Tatula to get them just like I want. 2 Quote

Super User rippin-lips Posted December 16, 2013 Super User Posted December 16, 2013 Winter boredom has set in for me already so I decided to do some painting. Re sprayed my Steez with a graphite grey. It's close to the factory color but with more metallic in it. You can see in the last pic the subtle difference. 2 Quote
Super User J Francho Posted December 16, 2013 Super User Posted December 16, 2013 aavery, those sideplate screws are a real nice touch! Rippen, It might make paining a little easier if you remove the brake assembly. It's a little fussy, but not too hard. Two thing to remember, note the setting on the dial wen the notches in the magnets are aligned. There is a little cup washer under the dial, on the backside of the plate - make sure you get that aligned right. Quote

I have it all apart now but that was just because I destroyed it to get it apart. Sideplate was already ruined so I wasn't hurting anything. I have to wait on a new sideplate from Daiwa and it's on back order. Good thing I don't need it till spring. Note to self. Don't assume your sideplate is metal just like the rest of the reel. Quote
CKFishin Posted December 16, 2013 Posted December 16, 2013 He is talking about the control knob on the side plate you have it taped off. He is saying you could have just taken it apart. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted December 16, 2013 Super User Posted December 16, 2013 Oh God, what happened to that sideplate? What CK said about the dial. Quote
Super User rippin-lips Posted December 16, 2013 Super User Posted December 16, 2013 Oh God, what happened to that sideplate? What CK said about the dial. Yeah I know what you were saying about removing it. I was meaning the re assembly of it. Taping it off was easier for me since I'd never taken one apart before. As for the sideplate. Well I wasn't happy with the frame because I'm an idiot lol. So instead of just repainting it alone, I figured let's re do all the pieces. Don't put a plastic sideplate in acetone. This is your end result. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted December 16, 2013 Super User Posted December 16, 2013 Don't put a plastic sideplate in acetone. This is your end result. I had a funny feeling....don't ask me how I know this... Quote
Super User rippin-lips Posted December 16, 2013 Super User Posted December 16, 2013 I had a funny feeling....don't ask me how I know this... Luckily it's only $30 for a new side plate and another $10 for the magnet holder that has the teeth on it. So a $40 mistake. Not too bad I guess. Quote
Super User aavery2 Posted December 16, 2013 Super User Posted December 16, 2013 Gorgeous reels, especially the Fuego Does the CC knob on the Fuego handle clikies? The knob is made so that it is capable of clicking and will when it is used with a reel that already supports this feature, like the Zillion. The Fuego does not spport this feature so it does not click. 1 Quote
