No pics oldschool............ Im dying to see some good old Ambassadeurs!

Absolutely marvelous collections. Thanks to all for posting although I'm feeling very ancient right now with my 5000s, 6000s and Mitchell 300s and fiberglass rods. My little 300s cost me $15.50 in 1964 and the 5000 cost $25 in 1972.

The little 300s are amazingly durable and have been used for years in salt water to catch any thing from Specks, Reds, Sharks, Blues, 60lb. stingray on 10lb line, logs, one tire and one bicycle. :respect-059:

Oldschoolbasser....... amazing collection! Are you getting the white gripped handles from Japan? Your pic of the collection did me wonders. I showed it to the Mrs. and she became much more acceptable of my humble collection.

Posted

My handles and side plates com from Mr.Ambassadeur himself Simon Shimomura.He's been a great source of information,and parts,plus who better than an expert on Ambassadeur reels for technical help.He's gone above and beyond to help me with my "Custom" reels,and I'm grateful for all. his help.As such,I try to help any fellow members of this sight with any peoblems,or questions they have about Ambassadeur reels. BTW,all the reels I fish with have been upgraded with every bearing,and drag washer upgrade available,and I have a couple of 11 bearing reels with lightweight JDM spools.

Yeah Jerry Foran builds my Ambassadeurs. I look forward to finding and reading Mr. Shimormura's books. Do you fish the reels with the white handles? How do they hold up if so? Thanks

I mainly use 3 rod n reels;

  1. Shakespeare Ugly Stick with a Shimano SEDONA 4000FD spooled with #14 lbs braided line
  2. Shimano FXS-66MB-2 rod with a Shimano SIENNA 4000RD spooled with #10 lbs braided line
  3. Shakespeare Ugly Tiger with a Quantum –OPTIX reel spooled with #20 lbs power pro braided

The Ugly Stick is my work horse and my Shimano rod is my flippin stick, the Tiger is my salmon rod/trolling set up.

Nice arsenal Mike! You will like the destruction. Another idea for a reel to pair with the destruction rod that would look nice on it is the shimano core 50 or 100 series.

Posted

Mike D you're going to love that combo especially the MGX.

I hope so, I love my 2010 premier and have high hopes for the MGX.
