Gamec0cks5 Posted March 21, 2011 Posted March 21, 2011 Well I got some 30lb Suffix 832 braid. I read the article in Bassmaster and it sounded interesting. Well spooled it up on my Revo S and hit the lake. Well the sensitivity is great, like all braid (IMO). I got my first bite and set the hook like always, I about fell out of the boat. The line snapped clean and the line was frayed like crazy. I thought it was just me, so I re-tied well during the trip I got broken off a total of 6 times! I was shocked. My fishing buddy was laughing at me "Superline huh?" In other words I'm going back to Sufix Premium Braid, and its cheaper. I usually go with a min of 50lb braid just because of the diameter. That could have been it Just thought I'd share Quote

I have no experience with 832 but it does seem strange. Quote
Rolltide09 Posted March 21, 2011 Posted March 21, 2011 I have been the 852 for some time now with a flouro leader and so far have no complaints. Quote
Bassohol Posted March 21, 2011 Posted March 21, 2011 You must have gotten a hold of a bad spool. I've been using it on a couple setups for quite some time now and have never had that problem. I couldn't break that stuff if I wanted to. I've gotten hung up with it and had to wrap it around the cleat on the boat and ended up pulling a huge limb from the bottom of the lake. So, I've had no problems with its strength. It's also the smoothest braid I've ever used. Compared to other braid, it is extra quiet. The only problem I have with it is the stiffness. It seems to be quite a bit stiffer than any other braid I've used. Quote
baluga Posted March 21, 2011 Posted March 21, 2011 Have you checked you're rod guides? Line fraying like crazy can be caused by grooves in the rod guide, specially the tip guide.. I haven't got line breaking issue w/ 832. I use 20# 832 w/ 12# FC leader. My leader breaks off every time I force to pull the lure from hung up. But just like other braid it definitely frays and snaps easily whenever it get rubs against rocks. Quote
Super User islandbass Posted March 21, 2011 Super User Posted March 21, 2011 What knot(s) were you using? The frayed description you give, could it possibly be the knot coming undone. Appreciate your report and heads up on the line. I now have second thoughts on trying it out. Quote
Super User Grey Wolf Posted March 21, 2011 Super User Posted March 21, 2011 I bought 300 yds of 30 lb. today so I'll see if it's as bad as you say or if you just got some bad line. Quote
BassThumb Posted March 22, 2011 Posted March 22, 2011 Thanks for the heads up, but it sounds like a bad spool of line to me. I had the same thing happen with Berkley Fireline Braid a few years ago, and I was convinced the line was junk. Now I use it all the time with no issues. Quote
Super User Hooligan Posted March 22, 2011 Super User Posted March 22, 2011 This about the 7th or 8th post I've seen about 832 in 30lb. I've got it on one reel in 50lb Neon lime, while I've fished it very little thus far, I've not had any issues to this point. Quote

Just throwing some speculation out there, but could it also be that you're setting the hook too hard, which caused the line to snap from the impact? The fraying sounds like what you would see if you an overrun locks your spool mid-cast, which Quote
okiefisher8 Posted March 22, 2011 Posted March 22, 2011 Has anybody that has used this had any problems with the line bleeding? I've got 65# fireline on one of my reels and by the time I'm done fishing it my hands are green. Quote

I've got 65# fireline on one of my reels and by the time I'm done fishing it my hands are green. That'll happen to some extent with any dyed braided line. To the OP, it sounds like something under the water was abrading your line. For some reason a lot of people think braid is very abrasion resistant when it is not. Because it is made up of many little strands, the strands can be broken one by one very easily. As was mentioned, check your guides as well. Quote

I've got 65# fireline on one of my reels and by the time I'm done fishing it my hands are green. All superlines will bleed. They're completely impermeable by dies or colorants. The color is only on the outside coat of the line and will bleed or fade. Quote

But not with Sufix performance or 832. Quote
Gamec0cks5 Posted March 23, 2011 Author Posted March 23, 2011 I'm honestly thinking it was a bad spool. I was using a polymar (sp?) & a uni knot. I've been using these two knots for over 10years and have yet to have a consistent problem with my knots. The fraying was just from snipping the tag line, it just seemed like every time you touched it one of those thin strands came un done. Strange to say the least, I'm not giving up on sufix braid though, I was just shocked on this lines first performance for me. Like they say you only get one chance for a first impression. .......Oh and no I wasn't setting the hook to hard, trust me I have that down by now ;D Quote

Shane Procell Posted March 23, 2011 Posted March 23, 2011 I fished a new spool of the Suffix 832 last week in some really rough sawgrass cover with XXL heavy frogs. I had a mono 15# mono leader with a uni connection. Landed several big bass nad had no issues with line accept a little bleeding. I like it......for braid. Quote
