BassinfromNC Posted March 18, 2011 Posted March 18, 2011 Hello all. I was always under the impression line is put on with spool on ground with label up, but I read on the shimano website where it says to use pencil with spool vertical and line coming off bottom of spool. Has anyone done it this way before?? Quote
Super User bilgerat Posted March 18, 2011 Super User Posted March 18, 2011 You're going to get 50 different opinions. The best thing is to go with braid. If not, do this: Spool it any way you like. Then, preferably in a large open space, open the bail and lay the rod down. Pick up the line and walk it out until it's down to the spool or close to it. Now walk back to the rod, pick it up and close the bail. Pinch the line between your thumb and forefinger to keep tension on it. Reel it all back in. The twists and coils will work themselves out. Now soak the line with a generous dose of KVD Line and Lure Treatment. You'll be good to go. Quote
Super User Hammer 4 Posted March 18, 2011 Super User Posted March 18, 2011 Put the line on the reel, the same way it comes off the spool. If you find that the line coils, when the label is face up, then turn the spool face down, the line should be somewhat flat if it's laying on the ground. I have Never had a line twist problem on any of my spinning reels, doing it that way.. 8-) Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted March 18, 2011 Posted March 18, 2011 My line spools are mounted on a mandrel with spinning line coming off the bottom of ythe spool and baitcasting line coming off the top. Just pay attention when spooling line. If it's not going on properly the coils will be apparent and you can adjust accordingly. Quote
Super User Marty Posted March 20, 2011 Super User Posted March 20, 2011 Using a pencil with the spool vertical is the recommended method from the manufacturers for reels with anti-twist line rollers. The traditional way with the spool on the floor is correct, except the position of the label is meaningless, because there is not consistency among manufacturers; in fact, there are inconsistencies within a manufacturer's products. The line should come off counterclockwise to offset the clockwise way that it goes on the reel. Quote
