catchnm Posted March 18, 2011 Posted March 18, 2011 What length and power you guys use for Pointer 100 jerkbaits and other similar larger size jerks? X-Raps, Swimmin' Image, etc.? Quote
Super User 5bass Posted March 18, 2011 Super User Posted March 18, 2011 I use a 6'6" M Fast for the regular Pointer 100's. I step it up to a 6'9" MH Fast for the 100DD's. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted March 18, 2011 Super User Posted March 18, 2011 6'2" MXF. Same rod I use for topwaters. Quote
catchnm Posted March 18, 2011 Author Posted March 18, 2011 How 'bout a 6'10" MH Browning Midas? Quote
Ima Bass Ninja Posted March 18, 2011 Posted March 18, 2011 6'6" M fast action for my jerkbait rod. (vendetta to be specific) Quote
WanderLust Posted March 18, 2011 Posted March 18, 2011 G Loomis BCR803 GLX 6'8 MH Fast But then I use it for most things. Quote
Super User Hooligan Posted March 18, 2011 Super User Posted March 18, 2011 I fish most on a 6'3" MXF, some on a 6'6" MMod. Quote
Craiger12 Posted March 18, 2011 Posted March 18, 2011 Kinda thought I would see more recommendations for mod/fast rods in this thread. I use a Dobyns 705CB graphite version for my jerkbait and shallow to medium cranking. Don't throw them enough at this point to have a dedicated rod. Quote
Red Posted March 18, 2011 Posted March 18, 2011 7' Lamiglas Excel 703 ML, however, I do not throw the larger baits very often. Quote
Super User Maxximus Redneckus Posted March 18, 2011 Super User Posted March 18, 2011 6 ft falcon Mh pistol grip Quote
flippin and pitchin Posted March 18, 2011 Posted March 18, 2011 Lamiglas Excel 703C micro and smaller baits on a Lamiglas Certified Pro 663 Spinning. Quote
Super User KYntucky Warmouth Posted March 18, 2011 Super User Posted March 18, 2011 either a 7'M-XF Zillion or 6'10''MH-F Carrot Stix Gold. Quote
catchnm Posted March 18, 2011 Author Posted March 18, 2011 Looks like the Medium action rods are getting the most votes. I have several quality 7' M and 6'6" M rods. So.......would you go with a 7' M or 6'6" M for medium to large jerks and shallow diving cranks, 0'-6' depth range? 8-) Added the cranks to the mix. Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted March 18, 2011 Posted March 18, 2011 I like a short rod and short handle for tip down twitchin'. Tou don't need the extra casting distance for shallow cranks to achieve their optimal depth so a shorter rod should be fine there to. Quote
Nibbles Posted March 18, 2011 Posted March 18, 2011 Kinda thought I would see more recommendations for mod/fast rods in this thread. I use a Dobyns 705CB graphite version for my jerkbait and shallow to medium cranking. Don't throw them enough at this point to have a dedicated rod. Same here. Quote
Jacob0434 Posted March 19, 2011 Posted March 19, 2011 I sport a 6'0" Techna AV Medium Moderate for my jerkbaits and shallow cranks. I sure do love that rod Quote
snhfish Posted March 20, 2011 Posted March 20, 2011 if this is going to be a topwater and jerkbait rod are you still using mono? Quote
Pantera61 Posted March 20, 2011 Posted March 20, 2011 I'm liking my Veritas 6'6" MH, fast action for Vision 110s. Good power and excellent bait control plus with superior action to control fish. Quote
