Super User SoFlaBassAddict Posted March 17, 2011 Super User Posted March 17, 2011 I've found myself swapping lines a lot recently when I bought a few new rods. I've got the setups for my other rods pretty well figured out. These two I have been flip flopping back and forth on though. Both reels will be Citicas. Both rods will be used for similar techniques, the second rod will be used in situations where the cover is too heavy for the first rod. Rod #1 - Dobyns 733: Traps, shallow cranks, jerkbaits, spinnerbaits, light texas rigs. Will also be used for poppers and spooks on occasion. Lighter cover/open water rod. Rod #1 - Dobyns 734: Traps, spinnerbaits, texas rigs, jigs, senkos. This rod will also be used for pitching into moderate cover. I'm sure I forgot one or two things on each rod, but I bet you can get the idea. These will be both multipurpose rods. The lines I have available here are the house are the following: Fluoro: XPS 12, 14, 17 AbrazX 12, 15 Co-Poly: Yo-Zuri Hybrid 8, 12, 15 And lastly braid. Size isn't my concern here. Quote
WanderLust Posted March 17, 2011 Posted March 17, 2011 12# Yo-Zuri would work well for 733. Braid for the second setup with a fluoro leader when needed. Quote
Ima Bass Ninja Posted March 17, 2011 Posted March 17, 2011 My suggestion would be to make one rod for faster moving baits(spinners, cranks etc) and put the yo-zuri on it 12#. Its been my experience that on fast moving lures the line matters very little cause its in the strike zone for such a short amount of time. Also trow the top water bait on this set-up. The other rod i would use for your tex rigs, jerkbaits, slower presentation and would put the flouro (15#) on that one. Line will definitely matter if the fish is gonna get a good look at the bait. My fault for not being more specific. Quote
Fat-G Posted March 18, 2011 Posted March 18, 2011 Well, in a similar situation to yours, where we both fish places with bigger fish, I would put the 15# Hybrid or 17# XPS on the 734, and 15# Hybrid on the 733. Actually, I would use braid on all of them, but I know you're wanting to try new things. Quote
Super User Maxximus Redneckus Posted March 18, 2011 Super User Posted March 18, 2011 OOOOOOOOOO by all means YOZURI 8 lb on crankbait rod and 15 on the other Quote
