Bass_Akwards Posted March 10, 2011 Posted March 10, 2011 To put line on my Curado 200e7 do I simply go through the holes in the reel? I just read those holes are sharp and cut up line. I'm lost. Help? Quote
ROCbass Posted March 10, 2011 Posted March 10, 2011 go around the spool and tie whatever knot you want. Some reel manufacturers recommend the arbor knot. I've used it and it works ok, but I tie it so infrequently that I can never remember how unless I'm looking at a diagram. I usually just do a couple overhand knots. If you get spooled you're losing that fish anyway so it really doesn't matter. Quote
Bass_Akwards Posted March 10, 2011 Author Posted March 10, 2011 so basicly theres no difference between spooling a baitcasting reel and a spinning reel? Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted March 10, 2011 Super User Posted March 10, 2011 Nope...No difference. Quote
The Rooster Posted March 10, 2011 Posted March 10, 2011 One difference is how the line goes onto the reel. I put line on a baitcasting reel with it feeding off the top of the spool and winding onto the reel the same way. Quote
bigbassctchr101 Posted March 10, 2011 Posted March 10, 2011 I know several guys that don't even tie a not and just use a piece of tape. You shouldn't ever have a reel down that far anyway. If you do, you are not using your reel to the best of it's abilities, and what the use in having a curado if your not getting the most out of it? I personally don't do this and never would (preference/confidence thing). But like he said, if you get a fish to take out line down that far you've lost the fish already more often than not. Quote
Jaheff Posted March 10, 2011 Posted March 10, 2011 I would tie a knot that's gonna hold good. If you ever drop your rod and reel in the drink, you better hope your knot on the spool will hold enough for you to pull it back up. Quote

rubba bubba Posted March 10, 2011 Posted March 10, 2011 Override the anti-reverse and reel it on backwards. You'll get twice the distance on your casts, I guarantee. This works especially well with Shimanos. Quote
johnD. Posted March 11, 2011 Posted March 11, 2011 I wet a piece of napkin, then make sure the line is coming off the top of the line spool, grip tight with the napkin and start reeling.I only re-spool a little more than 1/2 of the spool tie a uni/uni to the backing. Quote

tholmes Posted March 11, 2011 Posted March 11, 2011 Arbor knot works well for this... http://www.bassresource.com/fish/lines.html X2. THe arbor knot is super easy to tie and will hold well enough to retrieve your rig if you throw it in the drink. http://www.netknots.com/html/arbor_knot.html Tom Quote

dave Posted March 11, 2011 Posted March 11, 2011 I took it as a smart*** crack on Shimano. I might be wrong. Quote
Uncle Leo Posted March 11, 2011 Posted March 11, 2011 I took it as a smart*** crack on Shimano. I might be wrong. Ah ha, then I guess the same would apply for any reel. Boy that was valuable. Quote
Super User CWB Posted March 11, 2011 Super User Posted March 11, 2011 Leo, I think spooling the line on backwards is for the guys in the back of the boat 'cause they are casting backwards. : Quote
Uncle Leo Posted March 11, 2011 Posted March 11, 2011 Leo, I think spooling the line on backwards is for the guys in the back of the boat 'cause they are casting backwards. : Ah ha, now that makes sense and it can be done with any manufactures reel that way. Quote
A-Rob Posted March 12, 2011 Posted March 12, 2011 Don't forget to tie some mono backing on there! Especially if you are using braid as your functional line or just want to save some money from putting your good fluoro/mono all the way to the bottom. I put it through the holes on the spool with no problems ever. I back it and never go down to the spool again so the spool holes won't cut that line anyways with all the backing. Quote
Super User Fishes in trees Posted March 12, 2011 Super User Posted March 12, 2011 If you've got to ask this question, then you obviously aren't ready for the mysteries of bait casters in general and Shimano reels in particular. Know yourself, and your abilities. Go to the trusty Zebco 202. They come with line already on them, and when you use up all that line, you just buy another Zebco 202. Remember the classic words of Homer Simpson, i.e. "If something is hard, you should probably quit and try something easier." I'd volunteer to take that Curado off your hands. I'd pay for the shipping and even spot you enough extra to cover a few Zebco 202's to get you started. Seriously. Quote
