Ok if you read my last topic "Flipping and more" you know that I had a tournament this past weekend. We were throwing Skinny Dippers so I had a swivel on it about 1 ft and a 1/2 up the line. I was casting this junk a mile and I was using 16# Sunline Monofilament. Because I was casting so far and I was using Mono I couldn't ever get a good hookset so I need to know what to do, buy fluorocarbon? Because I like Sunline Shooter 16# because of the thin diameter but it's $40 for 130 yds. And what is Copolomer? Thx

oh where to start!? Your description of the way you had the swivel rigged with your skinny dipper I did not comprehend. You weren't able to get a good hook set most likely because you were so far away and the mono stretched like a rubber band. A simple fix to this IMO would be to move closer! or use a line with no strech (braid). Copolymer is a line with 2 different components incorporated. ex.fluorocarbon and nylon. Finally If you can afford Sunline than sure why not use it for applications that you want some line stretch. (treble hook baits) Its just way to pricey IMO.

Nvm the swivel, and we were fishing very clear water and tried moving closer but when we did we   stopped catching fish, so is Copolomer like low stretch? And I'm 13 so I can't really afford the Sunline but thats why I wanna know if there is another Flourocarbon line that has a small diameter but a bigger poundage, Example the 16# Sunline Shooter is .13 diameter which is the same as 12 pound mono. (Like Stren Magnethin)

Yes Braid IE. 30# braid is 8# diameter equivalent. If your worried about finicky fish than braid with a fluorocarbon leader would be your best bet. No stretch and still low visibility the best of both worlds. Make sure you tie good knots to connect your fluorocarbon leader to your braid though that is crucial! Your young go out and fish don't over think everything too much yet! Just have fun with it.  :o

IMO stren magnathin has horrible/ next to none abrasion resistance. Never used sunline, so can't comment on that.

I don't use copolys a lot, but most fluoros are about as stretchy as most monos; check out the TT fluoro showdown.

Braid with a leader might be a good fit. And no, I didn't read your other thread.

Edit:

The above post seems to say the same thing as mine does. Too late on the trigger :o

You must have one heck of a paper route to afford this stuff at 13. A 7'6" rod is fine. If you want a skeet reese rod because you think it'll catch more fish then go get it. Get some 30lb powerpro and tie on a 6ft long 17lb test flouro leader, and go fish the hell out of them.

Depending upon when you felt the bite and set the hook the swivel could be the problem. A swivel can allow the hook to roll a bit before the hook is set. It will note allow for a positive hookset as much as a direct tie. Of course fluorocarbon and braid will have much less stretch than mono. If you wish to use a swivel a line change may help.

;D ;D ;D

braid or braid with a fluoro leader is my vote.

Like people are saying go braid with fluoro leader. Financial wise I'd go spiderwire braid and yo-zuri ultra soft fluoro they are cheap and they work.

Haha I only make $10 a week but I do have abt a $1000 in 3 combos. And your right magnetron has little 2 no abrasion resistance but it throws good. I think I will keep fishing with mone and if it continues beg my dad for some of his Sunline Fluro lol  :o

Although braid may be slightly more expensive at first it's going to last a long time. I find myself changing fluoro a few times per season when it gets too much memory, however I have some braid going on 2yrs old. If you fill a lot of the spool with cheaper line (or just leave what you have on) then put the braid on top you can easily spool 2 maybe even 3 reels with 150yds.

If you have a BPS local to you they have Sufix Performance Braid on sale for $12. I haven't had a chance to use the new Sufix 832 but the performance braid is my first choice.

Well I have a Abu Garcia Revo SX/ Cumara MH 7'2 Combo - $420 and a Citica D/ Veritas - $220 and a Revo SX/ Team Daiwa- $280 so that $920 total. I have been fishing for a year now so I think I have made some good choices.

Ok I'm not gonna put braid on everything I want a Frog Rod and a Flippin' Rod with braid and that's it, the rest will be Fluro or Mono and I might try out Copolomer, thank you all for you advice it really helped ;)

Toray Solaroam SH Upgrade is my favorite fluoro for BC's. It's indestructible. Plus, sensitivity and hooksets are lights out. It's pricey but worth it to me.

A braid main-line tied to a Trilene 100% Fluoro leader with an Alberto knot won't break the bank and is a good combo in my opinion.

1000 dollars in 3 combo's and your 13 darn! Now I have over a 1000 invested but I hold 2 jobs to pay for this fishing habit.  :o

.

Sunline Super Natural Mono is only $10 for a 330yd spool. It's not too bad in the stretch department.

P-Line CX Premium Co-poly Fluoro coated doesn't have a ton of stretch either. Both are very small diameter lines.
