frogtog Posted February 20, 2008 Posted February 20, 2008 Check out these Poe's baits I found in a country store this morning. Wonder if the are worth anything. Quote
frogtog Posted February 20, 2008 Author Posted February 20, 2008 I gave a Ben for them. I'm assuming they are some of the originals. They have 1992 stamped on the packs and some are made in Utah and some in Oklahoma. :-? Quote
Super User .dsaavedra. Posted February 20, 2008 Super User Posted February 20, 2008 $100 bucks for 17 cranks? are there more than what is pictured? how much do they retail for? Quote
Super User Jimzee Posted February 20, 2008 Super User Posted February 20, 2008 I got a bunch of the old Poe's. I sent about 6-8 to Fourbizz for repaints. I'm excited to see what he comes up with. True story: Two years ago one April morning, I was fishing a riprap wall close to the Marina. I caught five fish in about 10-12 casts on a Poe's 400 white with pearl glitter. The smallest was 3.5 lbs. and the largest was 6.5 lbs. I was smiling for the rest of the day. I guess they were stacked up in that one spot. BTW, Frogtog - the ones that are worth more have a fish shaped package. Quote
Avalonjohn44 Posted February 20, 2008 Posted February 20, 2008 That comes to $5.50 a bait. I would say you got a pretty good deal. I have had some great luck with Poes. Quote
Infidel. Posted February 20, 2008 Posted February 20, 2008 I'd say you got a good deal. I really like Poe's cranks. Quote
Super User 5bass Posted February 21, 2008 Super User Posted February 21, 2008 I would've thrown down a hundred too.... Quote
frogtog Posted February 21, 2008 Author Posted February 21, 2008 What would yall do? leave them in the pack for safe keeping or use them? Quote
Super User 5bass Posted February 21, 2008 Super User Posted February 21, 2008 What would yall do? leave them in the pack for safe keeping or use them? I'd open a few and keep the rest in the pakage....just open them up as I need 'em. Quote
Super User Jimzee Posted February 21, 2008 Super User Posted February 21, 2008 What would yall do? leave them in the pack for safe keeping or use them? Put a few back and use a couple you have two of the same kind. If it was me, they would be in with the rest of my cranks. ;D BTW, you don't have any white with pearl glitter do ya? I'll give ya $20.00 for it if you do. Quote
Stringjam Posted February 21, 2008 Posted February 21, 2008 What would yall do? leave them in the pack for safe keeping or use them? Use them. The "original" Poe's were made during the late 80's in California, and come in fish-shaped packages. These are the most valuable baits, but "valuable" is a relative term - - even those baits don't tend to get over $10 very often on eBay. The baits you listed tend to go for between $3-$6 (I've sold LOTS of them on eBay). The Poe's post-California suffered from some QC problems - - especially lips working loose and popping out. I've been through a BUNCH of them - - some don't even make it through a single trip. Some of them really catch fish - - they just just don't last too long doing it. ;D So my advice - - bust them out and fish them hard. These baits won't be collectible so there's no need to worry about losing or breaking them. Poe's are some of the best fish-catchers you can throw. Quote
Super User Grey Wolf Posted February 21, 2008 Super User Posted February 21, 2008 Why save them ? They might be worth something 30 years from now. Quote
Super User Wayne P. Posted February 21, 2008 Super User Posted February 21, 2008 You might want to consider putting a clear coat on them before getting them wet. All of the ones I have that were packaged like those got cracked finishes just from getting wet. A couple were just dipped in water to see if they were defective and cracked in a few hours. Whatever finish is on them let water penetrate into the wood and the wood swelled. I gave up sending them back for replacements. Quote
