Super User Raul Posted March 8, 2011 Super User Posted March 8, 2011 I wouldn 't say spinning is more appropiate, I would say spinning is more forgiving and a cheaper way to go. Not everybody has 300+ bones to blow in an outfit dedicated for light tackle. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted March 8, 2011 Super User Posted March 8, 2011 I would say spinning is a cheaper way to go. Well...That's not necessarily the case. : Quote
Super User clayton86 Posted March 8, 2011 Super User Posted March 8, 2011 I throw weightless flukes and trick worms with a Revo S. No issues, casts a mile. I do not own a spinning combo for bass fishing.Cliff ditto except the combo i use is the cheap quantum tenacy ap from dicks the whole set up ran me 39.99 and iv caught tons of fish on it from 5lb smb to 6lb lmb and 40in pike with out a prob all on weightless mini flukes and some trilen 10lb xt Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted March 8, 2011 Super User Posted March 8, 2011 The lightest I have thrown with my Revo S is a 1/16 jig. I usually don't go lighter than 1/8 ounce. Quote
Pantera61 Posted March 8, 2011 Posted March 8, 2011 Today I was casting an old, Bill Norman triple-wing buzzbait, the original with the riveted blade. It weight 1/8 oz and it cast like a charm. The reel was a Revo Premier 2010. The rod was a 6'6" MH Abu Veritas. Quote
Super User Catt Posted March 9, 2011 Super User Posted March 9, 2011 Ok, I just tried my 700X on a 7' M/F rod with just a 1/8 bullet weight and the best I could do was about 60', but it was a bit breezy. I may be able to cast a bit farther on a calm day. I also weighed a Trick Worm and a 3/0 offset round-bend hook and it came in @ ~1/4 oz on my little digital scale. So, theoretically, no problem casting a weightless Trick Worm a respectable distance. Any lighter than that and I'll stick spinning gear. ;D That's key right there, many people do not understand the final weight of a lure Quote
Stasher1 Posted March 9, 2011 Posted March 9, 2011 True, especially when you're talking about spinnerbaits. In the ones I've measured, the weight given on the package is just the weight of the head. The blades, swivel, skirt, etc can all add up to quite a bit more. Quote
Super User new2BC4bass Posted March 10, 2011 Super User Posted March 10, 2011 I would say spinning is a cheaper way to go. Well...That's not necessarily the case. : True. Those Stellas are more expensive than a tuned Pixy. ;D ;D Quote
Super User NorcalBassin Posted March 10, 2011 Super User Posted March 10, 2011 No problem throwing any plastic with 1/4 oz weight with my Curado... and I'm far from a seasoned baitcaster. Quote
