Bass_Akwards Posted March 7, 2011 Posted March 7, 2011 Saw a video from Shaw Grigsby (I think) a while back about the San Diego knott being the absolute best knot for flouro. He showed how to tie it, but he did it with fishing line, where you couldn't see what the heck he was doing, as opposed to a rope where it would have been a lot easier. Since I can't find ANYTHING on the San Diego knott online, I was wondering if any of you had any other great knotts for flouro that are completely trustworthy. Is the Polomar knott amazing for flouro? Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted March 7, 2011 Super User Posted March 7, 2011 San Diego Jam Knot: http://www.netknots.com/html/san_diego_jam_knot.html This is the knot I use with braid. With fluorocarbon, the 16-20, also know as Duncan or Pitzen Knot: http://www.orlandooutfitters.com/knots/knot.asp?id=12 8-) Quote
Bass_Akwards Posted March 7, 2011 Author Posted March 7, 2011 Sweet RW thanks! Just learned about the "Burke knot" as well. Seems super solid. Time to check out your knots now. Quote
WanderLust Posted March 7, 2011 Posted March 7, 2011 I like the palomar as its so easy to tie. Most of my rigs I'm using a Berkley Braid Knot; it has excellent knot strength and doesn't slip. One major disadvantage is that its bulky. Quote

A-Rob Posted March 7, 2011 Posted March 7, 2011 I got to say the palomar is a good knot and has done me well and I use it for heavy flouro (ie 20#) but I use the uni knot for 17# and under. It cinches up well (when 17# or less) and was rated highly in Bass Times, my personal experience, and an article on ESPN by aaron martens that sounded like he was yelling at me. I haven't had any flouro knots break on me with the uni. For me it's really easy to tie so I like that as well. Quote
hookingem Posted March 7, 2011 Posted March 7, 2011 Flouro gets the improved Clinch as it has given me no trouble. Palomar on everything else. Quote
A-Rob Posted March 7, 2011 Posted March 7, 2011 P.S. Shaw Grigsby shows a nice way to cinch down the palomar knot, I use it all the time and it has helped big time with its reliability. Quote

Super User SoFlaBassAddict Posted March 8, 2011 Super User Posted March 8, 2011 With fluorocarbon, the 16-20, also know as Duncan or Pitzen Knot: http://www.orlandooutfitters.com/knots/knot.asp?id=12 8-) x2 I've found this knot to be much more secure than the Palomar. I won't argue that the Palomar may be a stronger knot, but you have to tie it perfectly with fluoro. The Pitzen is extremely easy to tie. It very rarely will seat incorrectly. Quote
Rangerphil Posted March 8, 2011 Posted March 8, 2011 Go on you tube search best fluro knot there you will see a guy called Stephen pineau he shows the double uni knot. A little trouble tying at first but this thing is awesome and strong as they come! Quote
philsoreel Posted March 8, 2011 Posted March 8, 2011 On one of the bass fishing shows on Versus, Rick Clunn said you shouldn't use a Palomar on fluorocarbon because the line itself is so hard that it will cut into itself when stressed causing a failure. He suggested using a uni knot so that's what I use. Everything else I've been using a Palomar but the Snell is quickly becoming a favorite of mine. Quote
repper Posted March 9, 2011 Posted March 9, 2011 From my experiences the Uni knot is the best overall, with fluro. And from what I've seen from the back seat of some really good anglers, it's the most commonly used by guys that can't afford to lose a fish because a knot broke before it should have. And the Uni is very quick and easy to tie as well. Quote
