Lews speed spool?

I'm headed down to my local fishing shop today, and i just bought a duckett rod. But no reel on the rod, so i was wanting to get one of the Lew's speed spool. $90. Just wanted to see if i could get any feed back on this reel. Thanks guys!

The new Lews Speed pro got decent reviews but I can't find feedback for this one.

Used Shimano Citica 200 E would be a good choice, imo or BPS PQ if you like the Lews reel shape is also a solid choice.

I've seen a few reviews slowly start to trickle in on various forums, if you just do a google search you should be able to find some posts. I really like the way they look but would like to hear some more opinions from owners before I'm ready to jump in.

The Tourn Speed Spool looks like a nice reel for $140 with its dual brakes. Really like the flat black on the Tourn Pro also.

LOL - I read that one but its for the more expensive model hence my reference to the Pro.

A $90 baitcaster can be a dicey option if not chosen carefully.

Darn near every company puts out several different models of their product.  You have the cheapest, most expensive and then a few in between. Stay away from the cheapest, the most expensive isn't always necessary but often wanted by the consumer.  Buy the one just below the most expensive. IMO, save your 90 bucks and buy the one I reviewed or the higher end one.

I had Speed Spool model SS1S and tournament speed spool model TS1H.  Once you get a few good fish on it you can feel the reel get sloppy quickly.  That the spring holding the plastic parts together fixing to break or bending.

The only difference in paying more for the reels is the spool, type of material of side plates, drag, and amount of bearings.  No matter which model you get its the same plastic parts for the clutch side which you will be lucky if you get 2 fishing season out of them.  Good luck getting parts in 3 years it will be in the junk pile with other basspro reels.

They are basspro reels and that is where I got my parts from to fix my reels when my Lew's broke due to Lew's seems to have issue with getting parts in.

Look at Johnny Morris reel specifications or cheaper basspro reel that looks similar and you will see very similar specifications to Tournament Speed Spool  reels for alot less money.  The regualar speed spool is the browning that was on sale for $59 a few weeks ago.  Even the lube port which just a plastic part that comes off the bottom is the same as the basspro reels.

Not a reel that I would invest too much money in.

If you have an Academy sports and outdoors you can get a similar reel better than anything Lew's makes for $49 sometimes $25 on sale its called the H2O mettle reel.  Very similar to Lews and basspro reels just less money.  If breaks you are not out that much money.

That's quite alot of input for a reel series that has been out for what, 90 days or so ? I'll be interested to see the future comments of Lews owners.

They actually been on the shelves down here since late September/October. The owner us to work for basspro as reel buyer and his company is located in Springfield, MO where basspro located. Then ask yourself why is Lew's in Cabelas and not Basspro? Why would I want a reel if I was basspro that is the same reel as my store brand reels.

When I needed to repair mine Lew's didn't even have parts. I actually went to basspro and got a pro qaulifier and bam for tat in parts, same lube port, and design for less money. Only difference is Lew's reels are black with tear drop handles. That sure sounds like innovation to me ;D

Well I got my Lews Tournament Pro Bait Caster last weekend and have been putting it through its paces as much as the weather will allow me.

The reel is very solidly built and is incredibly smooth and looks awesome. Not sure about the knobs yet, but they haven't caused me any problems yet and they are definitely better then those foam grips that came on my Revo Premiers and my Patriarch XTs.

So first day out I did some pitchin with the reel and it is very smooth and I had no problem pitchin and hitting my target every time. The retrieve is very smooth and the drag is very smooth as well. Caught 6 nice fish on it, nothing over 2lbs though. I was using a 3/8oz jig on a Micro Magic 6' 9" MH rod. This combo was just unbelievably smooth and powerful.

Next day out I decided to try some moving baits so I tied on a Strike King Red Eye Shad and went back out to the same lake. The reel casts very smoothly and very effortlessly. The retrieve was very smooth and once again the drag was very nice and smooth and powerful.

So 2 days out with this combo, about 3.5hours of fishing time and I can honestly say that I am more then pleasantly surprised with this combo. Only time will tell how it holds up over the summer and constant day in and day out use. But as for right now I am very impressed and am adding a couple more to the arsenal for this summer.

I will update as I get to use this combo more.
